Brothers,

As of this moment, I have a bit of a situation.

Over the past two weeks, RH has been fluctuating between a high of about 64% and a low of about 54%, spending most of the day at 58%. The set up is a roughly 100-cigar-capacity humidor, with two humidifier tubes (filled and seemingly not losing any water) and the standard brick (which, upon filling, seems not to hold the water anymore before replacing). I've got good sticks including an Opus X. I do NOT have a digital hygrometer. I calibrated the analog upon receipt. The humidor hasn't shown any problems up until this point (it was purchased late April/early May).

I need solutions. I fully intend to get a digital hygrometer ASAP.

Many Thanks.

Get a digital hygro, its impossible to accuratley diagnose any problems without a precise humidity reading.

Along with the new hydrometer and beads and I have a different thought. When the seasons change and I go from heat to AC on any given week, hell any given day, it messes with the humidity levels in your house. This can affect your humidor, especially a desk top model, which may not seal as well as a cabinet style humidor. And if you frequently open said humidor it will be even more affected by the ambient humidity in the house / room where it's placed.

Heartfelt beads and a digital hygro.
Also agree, ive tried calibrating thos analogs that come in the humis to find that they fall back down to where they were when I compared with a digital, so its possible you could be spiking the rh too. Good luck

First and foremost is those analog hygros are basically asthetic and notoriously unreliable. Get a digital Hygrometer Calibrate it with a boveda pack then see what your Rh is. Other than the hygro reading low do your sticks show any other signs of low humidity, dry wrappers, really loose bands smoking hot and bitter?

Beads and and a digital hygro. Bovedas do not absorb water as SH suggested. (wich you may need in the summer) After the replacement you may find you need to ditch the desktop do to leaky construction.

Lol lots of posts on "stop opening the humi." Mine's a desktop, glass top humidor, and I've thus far only been relying on the analog, which is placed to the front of the humidor and is visible from the outside.

Where's the best place to get beads? What are good digital hygrometers (or are they all the same?)?

The tubes were acquired in May.

It's highly possible the ambient temperature is f#cking with me. I'm looking to stabilize, and to do that I'll need a for-certain reading of the RH.

Thanks, Brothers.

Guess I'm the only one who felt this way, but I'll say it anyway....

We've had a few true emergencies over the past several months with Brothers going through life-changing disasters.

The word 'emergency' in the title of your post made my heart skip a beat, only to find out it was not an emergency at all.

Please choose your words carefully when posting....Just a nickel's worth of free advice.

Meanwhile, looks like you have received a lot of good advice with your problem...Hope it all works out.

If I was in OP's position, I'd believe it was mission critical. There's nothing worse for a cigar lover than to have cigars in an adverse climate and not knowing what to do.
Maybe the title needs adjustment (maybe Emergency Cigar Counsel Requested), but his concerns are justified. This is a cigar forum after all.

Hey Clint, yeah I know. I saw the threads in response to the Joplin tornado and various other real emergencies. Sorry for the heart attack.

No worries, man...I honestly thought "God, now what happened" when I saw the words 'emergency and 'counsel'.

Glad I was wrong, and glad that you have found some help with your RH :)
