Hm. I actually like a lot of RPs, especially the R4. I haven't had any real problems with them. I have found stems like that in the past, one in a cheap yard gar and one in a Padron. That surprised me.

Don't really understand all the RP hate. Smoke what you want, or not. He's got a few I enjoy, others I've tried once and won't bother with again... Just like Padron, Fuente, Tatuaje, and just about every other manufacturer I've tried.

He's obviously doing something right, or he wouldn't be as successful as he is. To say it's all marketing is a slap in the face to the reviewers that have given his cigars high marks- which has happened more than once.

My RP "Hate", as you put it, comes from personal experience. I used to enjoy them when I first started smoking, but over time I have gravitated away from them because IMO, they just aren't that good. I actually think the Decade is the only cigar he makes that is decent. I recently tried a RP 15th Anniversary (which was #6 on CA's Top 25)...Not impressed.

As far as the "slap in the face to the reviewers who have given his cigars high marks"...I could honestly care less. These so called "experts", continuously give high marks to cigars that IMO are not that good, while continuously snubbing cigars that I think are amazing...and I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I trust my tastes...what I like and don't like, and I honestly don't care for most RP stuff.

You just made the point Slave..

As you say, you're "hate" comes from personal experience...so in turn it's your opinion. Others have the opinion that his stuff is good. Who's right, you or them? Both...what's right for one may not be right for the other. It's funny though because on the forum, if you hate RP then you're "right", and if you like it you're just a noob smoker and will grow out of it. I just find that funny and elitist, but that too is just my opinion.

I'll stick with smoke what you like, and like what you smoke.

On that note, I don't care to much for RP's...a couple I can live with, but I don't care if the next guy loves them to death...good for him. Enjoy.

No one on this board who has been here several years is elitist. We developed are palates enough to relize Rp simply does not make a quality, GREAT TASTING product at a reasonable price point. This is why manufacturers like Jesus Fuego,AJ Fernandez and Abe Florez are praised here even though they are not Pete, Dion, Jorge or Jd. Just my few years of experiance here.

This +1 NCost. Kind of my previous point. I just don't see the point in putting down any one as a "noob" just because they like RP or any other cigar for that matter (even those disgusting infused incense smelling dog rockets that make me gag when I smell them)... different strokes for different folks, and it's kind of what makes the entire social aspect of smoking a cigar what it is.

Slave-

If one chooses to effectively look down their noses at anyone based on what they choose to smoke, it is elitist and silly. I would like to think we all know better than to assume our tastes are superior to anyone elses especially on something as personally subjective as cigars.

And in regards to my "offending the reviewer"- I wasn't talking about generally thumbing their nose up at strictly professional reviewers/reviews. There are plenty of people out there on this forum and others that offer up their opinions and reviews about smokes to be helpful and informative to others... and they don't spend their time doing it for people to be dicks and tell them they are wrong because their opinion differs. Just sayin, we all can learn from each other by being open minded, not the "don't like what I don't like" attitude that Rocky Patel threads seem to gravitate towards. :hammersma

I doubt the OP really got the informative info he was initially looking for based on the initial responses. :tiphat:

Am I missing posts in here? I didn't see where anyone was calling anyone else a noob, or being a dick because they said they liked RP. Where is that coming from?

You just made the point Slave..

As you say, you're "hate" comes from personal experience...so in turn it's your opinion. Others have the opinion that his stuff is good. Who's right, you or them?
This is not meant to be argumentative, just clarifying my statements...sometimes text has a way of conveying the wrong message.

I never said someone had to be right or wrong. He asked where all the RP hate came from...I simply stated where mine came from. I'm not saying that anyone should take my opinion as fact...it is simply my opinion. If they like RP stuff, great...it doesn't hurt my feelings and I certainly don't look down on them for it. Hell, if you search my first posts, you'll find a review of a RP Vintage 90 that I thought was awesome at the time...no one made me feel like I was stupid or noobish for posting it.

I think most of the "You're new, you'll grow out of it" type comments are meant in jest...not to be taken seriously. I honestly don't think anyone here is seriously trying to belittle someone for smoking a RP or any other cigar for that matter.

My comments about reviewers was directed at "pros" the likes of CA, not the everyday brother on the forums who offers up a review...I actually trust those reviews as they are generally based SOLELY on the actual smoking experience. As soon as someone starts getting paid (in one way or another) to do the reviewing, that's when I get skeptical.

Anyway, as I said...I'm not belittling anyone for what they choose to smoke. God knows I smoke things that some other brothers dislike. If we all liked the same things, the world would be a pretty boring place.

I pulled a small metal cylinder from a cigar a few years back. It was from a cigar & brand that I continue to enjoy. Just part of a handmade product. Didn't effect the draw or taste but was lava hot by the time I realized it was more than a thick stem. I've still got it but can't put my hand on it for a photo.
