I recently converted my big pelican computer case into my travel humidor by pulling out the foam and re cutting it to fit 3 boxes, and i am having issues with too high humidity. I am using a xikar digital hygro and montecristo beads. humidity is leveling out at 85%, i reclalibrated the hygro using the salt and ziplock method and same. I am in kabul and humidity is 63% today. Should i just air it out for a while or do you think it my affect the cigars too much to do just that?

63% humidity is perfect as far as I'm concerned. I'd just sit the boxes on the shelf. I would say to just air out the case. Leave it open for a couple days and see what happens.

well the humidity here fluctuates too much like today was 63 and now dropping to 50 and supposed to be in the 30's later. I think the montechristo beads maybe the issue and ill have to order some heartfelt beads instead. they are all the local shop had.

Ill leave it partially open for a few hours and see what happens..

I have the purge valve on the front but that is mainly to allow built up air pressure to be relieved.

case model is 1495

what is a montecristo bead?
If it's the same Montecristo beads that I got free at an event, they are junk IMO. They come in a triangle shaped tube about 4" long with gel crystals, and when I put distilled water on them, they turned to a gooey sludge crap substance I wouldn't wish upon anyone. I thought I might have put too much water in the first tube so I threw it away and then tried the 2nd one with just a touch of distilled water. I tossed that one right away too.

Here is what I had:

If I were you, I would immediately buy some Boveda packs or Heartfelt beads. The Boveda packs would be the easiest. In the meantime, open up your humi to dry it out.

ok, i got it. throw those away. gel tubes work good in wood desktops that leak a little bit. They do not work good in airtight travel humidors.

years ago, the owners of Cigar Caddy asked me what to use in their large travel humidors. I told them Boveda, and they listened.

Ditto on the Montecristo triangle POS humidor. I used it for a week and threw it away..it does turn into a sludge after putting them in DW. Now I just use those toothbrush travel cylinder..drill some very small holes in the plastic cylinder and add KL to it...put DW on the litter and it works better than anything I can buy on the market. Keeps my herf a dors at 65%.
