I don't know about the rules, but when the last time I flew transatlantic, I had a travel humidor (cigar caddy) in my carry on luggage and it was fine. However, due to the cabin pressure being lower than atmosphere pressure on the ground, some air got sucked out. Back on the ground, I had to open the humidor by forcing a gap with a screwdriver so that the inside pressure was equal to the outside.

Inadvertently, I also carried on a bic lighter which I completely forgot about, and no one from the security staff said anything.

I always toss my torch and cutter in my checked bag and bring my cigars on the plane. I make sure to bring a cheap cutter and lighter so that if they take them out of the checked bag it's no big loss.

Also if u have a cigar caddy without a purge crack the lid prior to take off, close at altitude, reopen prior to descent. Close after you touch down.. Don't want to have the caddy get sucked shut by pressure!

... along with a printed out TSA form where it says what is ok...just in case they have any questions.
I like this idea and will implement that moving forward.

That said, I also carry on my cigars with no issues through TSA. The only time I was confronted was when a TSA wanted to get a cigar suggestion. He recognized my travel humidor in the bin. Concerning lighters, I always bring a djeep softflame and those usually get through TSA also. I've had one or two confiscated in the last few weeks but who cares due to its costs. I also bring cigar matches and they never been questioned or confiscated. I have a nice punch on my key chain from my BOTL Secret Santa, and that hasn't been an issue also.

Fly with mine all the time, Cutter & soft flame lighters are fine to carry on just no torch. If you get someone that says otherwise they need to check with their boss.

Same here, i can usually get through TSA leaving atlanta w/ a torch, believe it or not but coming back is hell. A couple of times i've forgot it was in my pocket. One time i had to pay 25.00 to ship it back home because it was a nice torch. The bastard fucked up last week so maybe i should have left it there.:agreesmil

It's a sticky wicket out there..almost every airport operates a bit differently as most of us know who travel quite a bit. I keep my Herf A Dor packed all the time when I travel and I have 2 of the 15 count type. I keep a plastic cheap cutter at the very bottom and have a draw tool that I insert into a Robusto Cigar so that it can't be seen. I pile on cigars 3 deep and put a bic lighter right on top and I've never been stopped.

I do have a soft flame that I put in my checked baggage and a small can of butane that I put into one of my shoes..and it always makes it through as well. DO NOT bring any kind of torch lighter...they aren't worth losing and I brought along a cheap Ronson just to test the TSA...bastids found it at the very bottom of my carry-on that was hidden so well I had to finally get it out for them...they couldn't find it but knew something was contraband so they wouldn't let me pass.

Cigars no issue...torch is a gamble. I keep a BIC in every bag I own. Works fine except in the wind.

What about on international flights? Are the rules different?
Depends really...on what the TSA policy is at the time. Example... I fly to Singapore once a year. Going there is not a problem as they are always consistent with their policies. HOWEVER, since the flight back to Germany continues on to New York, they go by TSA policy. I've given up a few Bics at the Singapore check-in even though they are allowed on the flight from Germany to Singapore. Another year in Singapore, I forgot I had my cutter in my pocket. They took it, patted me down, and put the cutter in a huge envelope. I had to pick up that envelope on the baggage turnstile (sp?) in Germany when I landed. Rules do vary international, but if you are flying back to the states, assume they are going by TSA rules from the airport you are flying out of.

Cigars you should carry on, but cutter and lighter you should check-in.

I leave the torch (empty) and cutter in the hold and the cigars in carry on. Going to Cuba I put the smallest can of gas I can buy in my toiletries bag in the hold as well. If I can buy a can locally at the destination then I will rather than take a can.
