I've been eying my new collection thanks to a huge bombing run by my fellow Canucks. It was only -3 C (26F) yesterday, so while the kids made a snowman, I sparked up a Fuente Gran Reserva corona (I think). The first 5 minutes were pretty good, but I had a bitch of a time keeping it going and had to re-light easily a half-dozen times. The draw was very tight and I had to give it the ol' puff puff puff a few times to get anything at all. I gave it the old college try right to the last third, but my face was sore from pulling so hard. I'm a huge rookie/newb, but I'm guessing this isn't normal. So, either it was too wet or just a dog rocket (I've been reading up on terms, is that one right? :pokemyeye) My shiny new humi is sitting comfortably at 64-ish% I'll give a different stick a go once the expected snow passes. *sigh*

Could be any number of things, especially since as we all know, they're handmade items and far from an exact science. One thing that has worked for me in the past is to re cut the stick a bit further up the cap. Maybe the cut was too close, or there was a stem or the oils collected near the foot. You can also try a 'purge' of the cigar (look it up on youtube) to clear up the problem. There are also draw tools (or pokers) that you can get that loosen up the stick as a last resort. Barring all that though as I say, sometimes you just get a dud. Try not to worry about it :)

judging by your prior thread, it was either a hemmingway or a don carlos. was it a perfecto, or a parejo (straight sides up to the cap)?

either way, GOOD fuente lines, so i wouldn't necessarily say dog rocket. but even the best bone it from tine to time.

All manufacturers have duds and you will get plugged sticks every now and then. Part of having a hand made product.

Maybe if you email JD he will send you a replacement. :)

The oils thing may be the culprit. I noticed some pretty brown-orange stuff oozing from the cut. Not lots, but some. I won't be discouraged. Luckily I have another of the same stick so I'll give that one a try down the line.

I'll look up "purge". Thanks! ;-)

From my handy-dandy reference sheet it was ~5.5" and ~42, so Corona? I couldn't find it on the Fuente reference page, but it looked like this, thought I didn't notice any green on the band.

Sounds like it was too wet. How long has it been in your humidor?
About a week. My beads seem to dry out pretty quickly, so I was thinking some/most of the sticks are a bit dry due to shipping. But they came from 4 different sources, so....

Now that made me laugh! :hysterica
Who is JD? I'm missin' a joke here. :dunno:

TAR is more likely the culprit. It helps to make a fresh cut after it starts to ooze. It happened to me the other day when I was smoking a BTL.

It happens, as a matter of fact, it happened to me today with a much cheaper smoke. I didn't last as long as you did though, chucked it after nearly 2 inches.
