Hey y'all, I am curious as to how your Wineador smells? I first used newpaper to help clean out the smell, then washed it with distilled vinegar, washed again with distilled water and then another round of newpaper stuffing. After it was all said and done it smell pretty damn clean.

Here is my problem, I just started seasoning last night and I open to door to see how it smells, it smells very "cool" and has that natural ceder tone to it but something is off. There is some kind of plastic smell still in there! In y'all's experience with these builds, does the smell eventually go away once seasoning is complete? Will the effect the taste of my cigars? I have been to every wineador build topic that I can find and in this case I am looking for the opinion of someone who has one. Thanks so much y'all, got a great forum here :)

Here is a link to my in progress build guide on CA, you'll find a few pics of my setup if you'd like to see it.

Not sure. I have an Edgestar. I cleaned it with mild dish soap a few times, then kept baking soda inside for a week or so. Finally, when the smell died down, I put in a bunch old cigar boxes for another week. After that I put in my new cedar trays and start seasoning. Now, when I open the cooler, it smells freaking fantastic.

If you are worried about the smell. I would take the trays out now. Continue trying to get the plastic smell out of the cooler.

I think your right, I thought for sure I had done enough. A full week with newpapers, several hours with distilled vinegar and it still smells...off. Not sure what else I can do to get that smell out. Activated Charcoal doesn't seem to do much of anything. I got 3 bags of it at the local pet store and it hasn't done much in ways of the smell.

You'll just have to be patient with it. Try some of things I did. I really think putting in scarp cedar will help pull out the pastic smell. It worked like a champ for me.

I have one vino that cont. to smell. It was a edgestar. Cleaned it multy times, then put a half lb of activated charcoal in it for many months along side the boxes. Actually put it on top of the glass to a pull out drawer ( on a big shallow bowl.) I like the way it worked so much I've left the charcoal in there to pull out any ammonia as well.

Ill see how it smells at lunch and go from their. I think where I went wrong was not letting the distilled vinegar actually sit in side the fridge with the door closed. I just wiped it down. I will soak it in Vinegar again and let it sit for a few hours and then wash it out. I've heard that the vinegar is one hell of a way to clean it. But for right now...no seasoning :(
