How do the Punch Coronations compare to the RS12?

I'm smoking an RS12 now I got from a brother on another board. It's a pretty nice smoke, and a definite change of pace from my usual rotation. If the Coronations are similar I could see picking up a box. If not, I don't think I'm going to go chasing discontinued cigars. :)

On a related note, why did this brand historically have such a staggering number of marevas and perlas??

I don't have a answer to your questions but also have never fell in love with Punch as a brand. I've tried to like it but never suited me well.

From what I gather(not first hand knowledge), that the blend changed in 2005 so that historic Punch profile was changed forever. Some guys opinion, that I trust very much, have said that the older Punch were completely different and MUCH better. It's sad to think that soo much has changed, I feel like I've missed soo much. :(

Sorry I couldn't help the OP.

Could you provide a little insight into your experience / review? I've heard Punch is mostly like licorice. Doesn't sound attractive?! lol

If you get the chanse to try a Punch Punch from 2005 or older you will fall in love. The same goes for the DC from 2005 and older

I have a few more of these, will try to do a review at some point. Honestly I did not put a lot of thought into it while I was smoking, it just tasted good. :) I didn't really pick up licorice. That said, I love black licorice, so if it was there, it probably wouldn't have put me off. Pastis is one of my favorite drinks during the summer, too.

Ben, I've had a Punch Churchill tubo from (I think) before 2005. Absolutely LOVED it. Very good cigar. I think I have 3-4 left.

I don't like ANY current production Punch...... they were only good when the RS11 and 12 were around. :dunno:
Hmm, sounds like I should buy something else then. :-/ Not like there's a shortage of other Pcs to try, though.

I might be in the minority here. I have never had an aged Punch, but current production PCDP are in my rotation and I really enjoy them. The ones I have been smoking are 2010 and have yet to have a bad one.

I have to disagree, Jim. If you get a chance to try the Punch Punch or Black Prince from the late 90s, I think you will be pleased.

I have to say, the Punch PC del Punch is a favorite of mine. Not nearly as tannic as the RS11/12/SS1. I have smoked from 04, 05, 07, and 09. Quite flavorful, and worth picking up a box.

The only recent production Punches I have tried were a Punch Punch (awful), DC (okay, but lacking body and depth of flavor compared to other DCs), and the PC del Punch I find pretty good.
