Wouldn't you like to know?
The more I think about this the more I think you will be limited more by what you can find with that date code then really having too much input on what it really is. With cabinet production quite low these days you may be stuck with you get what they give you.

I don't know, I think the Partagas Lusi's will hold up to 50 years better than the HDM's will.

Then again, could get a cab of RASS, I know they age well with limited time, not sure how they will do over that amount of time.

I feel for you, ben, this ranks up there as one of the coolest ideas concerning cigars I've heard, but it's also not going to be easy. I'm going to buy a box of cigars when my child is born, and smoke one every birthday, but that's only 20+ years, and only a box.

The reason I brought up bolivar is because I feel they have the most aging potential, but if you don't like them, it's a moot point.

I'm getting married next year and was planning on doing the same thing. I'm probably going to get a box of Sir Winnies or 1 to 2 boxes of BHK 52. Expensive smokes but it's a special day and I figure it calls for a special smoke

Ben, the most age I've had on a DC/larger HdM is about 10-15 years. Issue for me is that I'm not a Punch fan, and haven't had a Lusi that I've really liked yet. Yeah, I'd be a bit concerned about an HdM DC holding up to 45-50 years, but I'd rather roll the dice on that (with a good crop) than have cigars I don't think are great at much of any point. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe a 20 year Lusi is great (they might have the best aging potential), but that is my take.

Also, I agree with Aaron re: availability, but I suspect you know you're at the mercy of the production process there.

I'm getting married as well next year, and will be looking for the right box. I've already done it with my children's births but they are boxes of 25 and they will be for the big birthdays and hopefully weddings and grandchildren (if I'm still around).

For my wedding I'm thinking mag 50's or party salomones. I'm happy to go with 2 boxes of 25- if I get to the end of the second box that would have been a fantastic innings !

They should have to make a Partagas 17-16-17 for you Ben.

Vintage-wise, SLRs lose a lot of flavors quickly (around 5yrs) and get very rustic (10yr). As for HdMs, I haven't tried any other than the 98 DDs and DPs. I prefer the DP as it offers more complexity. I think the Le Hoyo line is one where handpicking makes a big difference.

I like the Lusi or the mag 50. HU and Partagas age well...then again, the ones we're talking about are different blends, so I guess we'll see.

I asked James Suckling via twitter and he suggests the Hoyo epi no2.

I've never smoked one, what does everyone think ?
