I have an Edgestar 28 that is filled with drawers from Forrest. I absolutely love my setup. It keeps my sticks right at about 64/64 degrees which is exactly what I was looking for down here in TX. Anyways, the drawers were fantastic when I was buying samplers, 5ivers, singles, etc. but now that I am buying by the box, I don't have room.

Do I...

1) buy another Edgestar 28, and move over the shelves and have one unit for box storage and one unit for singles?
2) just take all the sticks out of their boxes (really don't want to do this)
3) talk to Bob at Aristocrat and drop some serious coin on a real setup?

I am leaning towards #1 as it's the most immediate, cost concious decision, but I think #3 is best for the long run.

My only concern with an Aristocrat is...are they temp controlled in addition to Rh? I know he has his "set it and forget it" systems but I wasn't sure if that was for cooling as well maintaining RH? I like that my Edgestar keeps everything cool.

Thanks!
Jason

With the Edgestars on sale for 125 shipped, I think it's worth it to go for #1... at least for now.

Go with option #1 but might add that it's either time to start thinking about thinking about an Avallo or Aristocrat soon if you plan on buying more.

I have a 50 bottle for boxes and a 28 for singles and I wouldn't have it any other way; craigslist is the easiest way to find a cheap wine cooler (especially if you need it fast)

I'd say option 3, I have a 28 new air and recently took the plunge. LMK if you have any questions.

Any thoughts on removing 1 of the drawers and adding a shelf?

Also, do you have the false quadruple drawer on the bottom, allowing for room for more storage at the bottom of the unit? I have a similar setup and can fit a couple boxes in the bottom, under the drawers.

You might look into what another Brother did on here, buy a cabinet humidor and put the aristocrat "set and forget" option in that one. Cost a fraction of the price, but got you to the same place. Personally, I couldn't bring myself to pay the prices I see for those humidors. But, it works for some people, and not for others. :) I was going to say a coolidor, but then I saw you're in Dallas and realized why you need a temp option, lol.

The set and forget system is really just for the humidity... you can't really just throw one of Bob's cooling/AC units in another humidor. His main point is that he wants temp control.

Only you can answer if buying an Aristocrat/Avallo with temp control is worth it to you. If you are unsure about how many cigars you will be buying in the future, I would probably just buy another Edgestar and use the standard metals shelves that come in it and stack boxes on those. You can add a 3rd if/when needed too at a fraction of the cost you would be spending on an Aristocrat with temp control. Having temp control in an Aristocrat or Avallo is big bucks, but is well worth it for me. My wife didn't want to see a few wine fridges laying around etc and was happy that I could get a nice furniture grade cabinet that doesn't even look like it's for cigars.

Very true, if I remember correctly, this member ordered thermoelectric coolers and installed them on the back of the cabinet. Obviously, this is a LOT more work than simply buying a cabinet like you have, installing the cooler units and the "set and forget", but it might be a good alternative for those looking to save some money.

Thanks gents.

If I do go the high-end route, I will go with Bob @ Aristocrat because he is local to me and I can actually touch and feel the piece being built, and I can possibly coax him into helping me set it up ;)

I have about 5 boxes plus 2 single drawers and 2 doubles with about 300 sticks. I already have 3 spare shelves and another 3 spare double drawers that I removed to hold boxes. I have a couple desktop humidors not in use but those don't help with temperatare.

Sounds like option 1 is good for both short and mid term solution, cabinet would be mid and long term solution.

IF you buy a high end cabinet with temp controls you should stick with Aristocrat as they are in Dallas too. I would suggest picking up the unit to save freight completely. The farther away the cabinet builder is from you the more will cost to ship.
