Was actually curious as well. I have some older blue 601s (I think, the band is the old style) and was curious if the new ones are as good?

I remember this being asked before... if you are referring to the blends and if they possibly changed. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it using the standard or advance search on the forum, but did find it using google asking it to just search the botl domain.

In that thread someone mentioned that all the blends are pretty much unchanged but there have been tweaks to the red label.

That said, I like these sticks more with some age but I can say that with a lot of stuff that I smoke.

That helps a lot. Thanks.

I agree on the Red having been changed. The newer knees I've smoked are good, but not like the older ones... Less spicy and less strength. But it sounds like I need to go ahead and get the Green label La Fuerzas I've had my eye on. :ccool:

Check out Tobacco Road in Sacramento. He still has a lot of the 601 cigars with original labels (aged!). If you are buying a box talk to Zee and he will cut you a deal.

I really like all of the 601s, great considering you can get them fairly cheap if you look around. I was sad I missed Jdogs for sale thread a few days ago.

I've only had the old bands though, I have no idea if the blend was changed or not.

Not sure about the others, but I've had both the newer and older 601 Blues and I still like the new labels just as much.

I like the new Blues. Never had the old ones though, so I can't help you there. The Blues & Greens show up on the monster all the time for pretty cheap.

I've got most of a box of blues from 09 that are smoking fantastic at the moment. I would be surprised if any of them make it to '13.

The greens (old and new bands) are fantastic smokes, and one of my favorites. I did hate the design of the "new" bands. They've gone back to the original (or something similar) now, haven't they?

Yes I believe the current band is closer to the original...I think they added words like "Maduro" and "Oscuro"...They still aren't as nice as the original bands IMO but better than the horrendous, relatively short-lived one they replaced.

Box of 601 red robusto is going for $75 on Atlantic's website, with the blend being tweaked I'm not sure what I'm getting into as I've only had the old bands. Hmmmm...

Eddie Ortega (former half owner of EO Brands) has told me several times the blends never changed! If there is any change in taste it is just the year to year production or the fact that the older ones have age to them. All are still being made at My Fathers Cigars also.

Eddie left EO selling his half to Erik Espinosa and started his own brand Oretga Cigars (and by the way very good smoke). I just talked to Erik last month and he will be changing the brand name from EO Brand to Espinosa Cigars, and he has a new cigar starting out the Espinosa brand this month, but he didn't give me a time table on when the other bands/brand would be changing. His new Espinosa cigar is not made at My Father.

Thanks for sharing! I'll be buying that box for sure now.

I managed to let of few of the green labels sit for 6 months or so, and they become simply amazing with a little time. Tons of cocoa and spice.
