Headed back to the US of A

Well Gents, I am very pleased to inform you all that I will be headed back to American soil in a mere 22 days. My time over here in the sandbox they call Afghanistan is all but finished. I've decided to call it a day and go home. It's been a long year being away from home. Sure, I was home for 17 days around Christmas and another 17 days in March, but it's not like "being" home. I've missed my family. Not just my wife and daughter, but my mom and dad and my borthers.

For those that don't know, i've been over here in Afghaniland serving as a Civilian Contractor. I do environmental/hazmat stuff. i signed on for a one year contract and that contract is just about over. I've been toying for about 3 months with the idea of staying just a few extra months to make some extra cash. I get paid pretty darn good money, but I've decided that the money isn't worth being away from my family any longer. I've accomplished my goals; got promoted a few times to the position i had hoped, made the money I wanted to, paid the debts I wanted to, and now I'm done.

It's an exciting day for me for sure. I'm celebrating tongiht with some contraband that shall go unnamed and that I've been missing for these many long months. Shhhh! DOn't tell anyone, it could get me sent home 22 days sooner than I want.

See you gents soon and watch out, I've been stocking up on some lovelies on my trips through dubai and I've got some space so clear when I get home.

My dad did the civilian contractor stuff over in Baghdad in between his active duty tours. Sure the money is great, but we (the family) were happy to have him home. Your family will appreciate your return!

I feel you, my old job had me away from home for 4-8 weeks at a time, then home for 2 days, and out again. Only getting to see my wife and family for less than 12 days in a year wasn't what I call a good situation. That lasted about a year, made my money, got my experience, then quit so fast it made their heads spin, lol. I didn't have to deal with crazies planning on shooting at me... unless I was in south central LA, lol.

Don't you know it Adam?!?! I'm actually allowed to to go home in 12 days at the end of my contract but I'm staying an extra 8 days to finish out the pay period. And with my job, it's funny that with each passing hour I realize that I don't have to care as much. I know that sounds lazy and like I have no character, but it's the truth. Once I leave here this place will still keep moving and things will still be all f'ed up so it makes no difference what I do for the next days, it's not going to change how things are over here.

I know that doesn't make much sense, but the point it, I'M GOING HOME IN 3 WEEKS!!!!

Can't wait to get back to my cigar stash and pull out those little lovelies that have been laying there for several years. and sit out side without the dust and wind and enjoy a fine drink and a cigar. Oh, the little things.

YOU KNOW IT!!! I've been missing good food for far too long. The wife got me a new smoker for christmas and i've only used it twice. Once for the christmas turkey and the other for a piece of prome rib. I've got brisket, baby backs and pork butt in the freezer just waiting on me. OH YEAH BOOOOOOY!! Can't wait to get home for some of my BBQ.
