I found this humidor online for $8. I don't know much about them and was wondering if you fellas had any insight. The seller only has two pictures posted.

Here is the description:

Ultra premium solid cedar box with brass latch 7" x 3.5" x 4". No signs of wear-Hand made in Spanish Honduras.

Should I go for it? Anyone heard or seen this kind of humidor before?

That's just from a box of cigars. Plus, it's tiny. You can probably find that same box at most cigar shops, for free or 2 bucks.

That's just an empty cigar box. I don't know how good the seal would be on it. When buying a humidor I always think of how much the cigars that fill it are. If you stock anywhere from $200-$500 in cigars why risk it storing them in a $25 humidor? Just my .02¢ hope it helps

Yep I'm going to have to say this is the best advise I have heard on pricing a humidor! Agree!

Wow, thanks for the quick replies! I'm so glad I didn't buy this!!

JDog - That link is great, I will start there.
I finally consolidated all my smaller humis int a cooler door a couple weekends ago!
Super easy, but you need to do multiple clean, dry outs so it takes a little patience!

In total about an hour of work spread out over a long weekend!

Stock up on empty boxes/cedar pieces and dividers.

In my opinion you'll quickly outgrow that solution. Looks cool though. I would just get a 65% Boveda pack with that smaller option. Also, make sure you get the Boveda hygrometer calibration kit... I don't necessarily agree with their approach although I'm not an expert. Per Neil's (fourtotheflush) suggestion you should clean out the storage container to get rid of that "plastic" smell that they mention in the video.

Tupperdors are good, but depending on how quickly you slide down the slope you may quickly outgrow it. You may want to just go ahead and set up a coolidor and save a step. Up to you, either is a great way to get good storage fairly cheap. And if you're doing the tupperdor I'd second JDog's suggestion and go with Boveda for your humidity control. They work well, super easy to use, and not expensive.

Yup, a tupperdor will work for you, but a piece of tupper that size may cost as much as $10 or more. Because it's the camping season, Wal-Mart has coolers for that price, or if you want to go a bit bigger they aren't much more. I bought a 120qt cooler for $50, 3 lbs beads and got some free cedar from the local when I bought cigars and I was good to go. Even that is nearly full now, lol.

For the price I paid for one of my three desktops, I set this thing up and had room for full box purchases, which is where you really get the deals. :)

One of the nice things about this hobby is that certain boxes of cigars are like artwork...they look beautiful. Some of the boxes from Gurkha really are some of the nicest boxes around even though I'm not a Gurkha fan. What I've done is buy a big tupperador and put the whole box in it....the box acts as an agent to help settle the RH inside and the tupperware works great as storage. Kitty Litter is something I use to maintain my 65% RH inside the tupperware...all in all it's a win win.

Walmart has a Coleman 120 quart for 50 bucks. The lids seal well. A pound or two of beads and you're in business. Spend the extra 20 and get the larger one. Always better to have too much room.

The cooler is a great, cheap way to go. But, maintaining constant humidity levels will be a pain if it's mostly empty. Since your just starting your collection, I really think you should buy 1-2 large tupperware & a couple bovedas. Then, while your cigars are in there, decide if you like this hobby enough to fill the cooler. (If you can see yourself buying 1-2 boxes, you'll fill the cooler!). If so, buy a cooler & fill it w/ empty boxes. Put in a couple lbs of beads & let it stabilize for a while. No rush, because you have the tupperware. As your collection grows, fill the empty boxes with singles, or replace them with full boxes! :)
