Evening all!

I just bought my first opus x Fuente Fuente (single) and paid roughly $15.00 for it.

I haven't ever had an opus x but hear everyone state great things about them. I kinda wanted to get the feel of some members in regards to their experience on the stick. My local guy only has a few boxes and they're going quick!

I was really hoping to wait till this weekend to light this guy up by the pool, but if I enjoy the heck out of it and want more, I'm worried that he'll be out for a while....

So my question to you BOTL's is should I go back tomorrow and get more sticks to hold me till his next order? Or is it too close of a call, and I really should try this one prior to spending that dough?!

My local guy knows what I like and really suggested I try this one, stating "you won't regret it"...

Slowly building my collection up (don't have the cash to buy boxes yet, and by that I mean I don't have the wife's permission to spend a couple hundred on sticks) so I don't want to miss out on something like this while it's here.

Thanks guys,
-Chrisso

opus is, for me, grab when you can, whenever you can. it is also one that you could easily offload later.

just for the record, grab a few, smoke one, and forget the rest for at LEAST a year. trust me.

Might as well grab another one...or two. For me the Anejos are better than Opus, but everyone's tastes are different. If you like 'em you'll have a few more to smoke. If you don't I'm sure you won't have any problems trading them for something else or you can let 'em set and see how you like 'em down the road.

Dang this info is just a few days late for me. Never bought any and haven't had the pleasure of one yet, so I wasn't sure if it was a normal price. A little cigar shop in Palm Coast, FL that I was at had no.4 and no.5 for around $12 a piece. I was debating getting myself a couple for father's day this past weekend, but passed on them.

If I were you I would definitely smoke the one you have so you know what they are like, but also grab a few more and stash away for awhile. I personally don't like Opus unless they are at least 2 years old... I have a bunch from 2009 that I won't touch for another couple years... That's just my opinion of course, but these cigars are one of the best non-cuban cigars that can age well.

Opus are definitely a love em or hate em type smoke. They have a distinct "raisiny" taste to em thats unique and very distinguishable. Before the current heavy hitters i.e. Pepin, Andre, Drew, and even 4 or so years before the Padron Millennium, Fuente released Opus and they were THE chase stick for the best part of 10 years. Most shops would limit them to 2 or so and just like today, they come in when they do with people even the retailers at times not knowing when they're coming in. Sizes can be varied per shop but for the most part, they're pretty consistent per release (which usually is 3-4 times a year). I haven't seen them as regularly as past years but they are around. Just to repeat others above, don't pay more than MSRP for them. Many places jack these up because of the "rarity" of them. One way to be sure that they are at least around MSRP is to make sure that the retailer is an appointed Opus X retailer (not just a Fuente retailer). I personally love em. they're good fresh but put a few years on em and they become really good. Find any with 10 or so years on em and OMG!. G1

Goalee1, wise words sir. Very insiteful. Just pulled it out for the wife to smell, and she mentioned that it smelled a bit cinnamony, and stands out from the others in the humi.

Thank you everyone for your obvious experience in the matter.

Think I can't go wrong with picking up at least 2 more. If they don't work for me, then I'll put some age on them. They may even appear in bomb or something for someone when the time comes.

Thanks again,
-Chrisso

For future reference there are some reference guides to various brands here on BOTL that may prove useful...

...but here's the pertinent info on the MSRP for Opus. May have changed a little, but a brief tour of Google seems to indicate it's pretty good.

I agree with that NickThePyro guy too! Most online retailers sell for over MRSP and will admit they do because people will still buy them up. Good local B&M's will stock them and sell at MSRP but will have a 1-2 stick limit. Father's day and Christmas are the 2 times of year they typically do the shipments so right now is when most stores will have them in stock. But stock here at least goes extremely fast, usually gone within days.

And I don't know if I need to correct myself or not, but after closely looking at the raper it says "chateu de la Fuente", and "rare estate reserve" on the opposite side.

Should have gathered that information prior to posting.......

But it says Opus X...and that's what matters haha. Anyways, I love Opus and Añejos. The Opus does have the "raisin" flavor mixed with a sweet sugary taste. Don't grab those, just come to the DR and I'll take you to the AF Official Cigar Lounge and you get to choose any Fuente you like ;)

The problem with any msrp is that you will almost never find it. Opus or any cigar for that matter. Places do charge more for opus sometimes because they will sell. But msrp is just a keystone price so if cigar maker a sells a cigar for 10 dollars to a retailer msrp is $20. The problem with that is tobacco tax... In Nevada tobacco tax is 30% so cigar maker a's cigar actually cost your retailer 13 not 10 dollars. This means if they keystone or just double cost it will be 23-26 dollars on the shelf depending on retailers discression and policy with key stoning and taxes... So do not be surprised if often times a cigar is a few dollars more than msrp. You can just buy online and bitch when all the local b&ms close if you don't wanna pay a few dollars extra for taxes or just get to know your b&m and support them and I'm sure they will always do their beat to take care of you...
