For those of you who have smoked both, what are the differences you note, and which do you prefer?

I must preface this by saying I haven't smoked a lot of either, but I have smoked both and very much enjoyed both. The J21 had just a bit more of a sweet, spicy flavor (nutmeg, allspice type) where as the 7th had just a bit more earthy, cocoa, coffee notes. They're both fairly peppery. If I had to choose one over the other I don't know that I could.

Wrapper on the J21 is Nicaraguan Ligero and the 7th Reserva is CT Broadleaf. The J21 is a bit stronger and reminds me more of the pork tenderloin/TAA/B Rex. Right now I prefer the J21, but would like to see what a few years can do to the 7th Reserva.

Very different sticks IMHO.

I prefer the J21 with age to a fresh 7th, but a fresh 7th might beat out a fresh J21.

The J21 is more of a peppery powerhouse.

i have actually only burned one j21, and it was yummy, but just not that chewy goodness that is the 7th res. CBL capa AND my favorite vitola, just hits every time for me.

mind you, they both are superlative. not like you would be settling with either smoke. o)
