To drive 9 hours to pick up a humidor and drive back?? Found a JC Pendergast cabinet that would match my other one but is twice the size. Only thing is its near Detroit, Michigan and I'm in DC. I've checked out several scenario's and looks like the best option price wise would be to rent a cargo van from enterprise and drive it up there, pick it up and drive back. On cost, its a little difficult to gauge as they don't make these anymore but the one I have, has been a workhorse for over 15 years with no issues. What they're asking is a little more than half of what a similar cabinet via Bob would be not including shipping. Is it worth it. I"ll probably have to find a few places to stop on the way for pit stops Looks like mostly the 1-76 to 1-80 slot. G1

Really you can only ask yourself that question. But, if it's the same model but bigger then the one you have, and half the cost of a comparable cabinet and you like it. Then yeah, I would say it's worth it.

Have you seen detailed pics to know the condition it is in? Glass or wood doors? If glass, how is the seal around it? How well do the doors shut?

Also, assume you may have to replace the humidifier. I did with the Pendergast I bought. I actually had Bob make a unit that fits my cabinet. Works great. But of course that is added cost.

Hey B, well it looks like its in new condition. All glass around (I have the single door version of the same unit.) Doors always need a little adjusting but my unit keeps humidity better or as good as any other piece I have including my aristocrats. I've had my unit for 16 year now with no issues so not sure why I"d have to replace the humidifier, why did you replace yours? Most important thing is my wife actually saw it and said why don't we get that. She HATES the depth of the aristocrats and so as I never get a green light so to speak I"m seriously contemplating this drive. I have looked into the M and M+ which would be the same dimensions basically (M+) but this is again about 1/2 the cost and would match my other unit.

One issue is that renting a cargo van, they always ask if I"m leaving the tri state area so I'm wondering if they won't rent it to me if I tell them distance as milage is free or they'll tag on a fee for leaving the area. G1

just for perspective, you are asking a group of people who routinely lay things down for years to get something exactly the way they want it, if spending a day chasing something you want is a good decision? o)

MY worry would be condition, and if you are good with that, roll out, man!

Replaced the humidifier in mine when I got it because it wouldn't work. Was told that model isn't made any more, so I would need a different model. For the price, it was better to go to Bob.

Got it. I actually just measured my new car and it'll fit no problem. Hmm that makes it easier for a road trip. OK, have to wait to hear back from the lady on finalizing this but looks promising now. G1

Just check drop fees on this. But What I might look at is renting a Mini Van and taking all the seats out. Would be way better on gas and a good chance it would fit. Plus all most all rental companies have unlimited miles now and you would be way more comfortable. And as far as driving. I have drove 8 hours just to get sticks so what is another hour for a cabinet.

Yeah, before I measured my car (which I should have done first which would have saved me an hour of looking up vehicles to rent lol), I did look into a couple of scenarios and they all fell around $500 mark. With the unlimited milage thing, I almost always go with Enterprise and they are unlimited as long as you stay within a certain area (tri state for me). I enquired about going outside that area and they said it was $1 per mile or I could enquire with their commercial truck division but they usually go with a one way rental. They gave me 4 days to do the trip but a rate of $493. Penske one way was right in the same neighborhood but I'd have to rent in MI for a one way which would have had me fly out to MI. Enterprise now has geographical locators in all their vehicles so they can tell if you go outside a certain area and if you don't tell them, the contract would be voided an they can basically charge you whatever they want. Luckily it'll fit in my vehicle. G1

Yeah it(the humi) measures 63 high, 36 wide and 18 deep. My prob with my first unit was the height and it just fit but had to knock down all the seats in the element. New vehicle has 86" with the seats down so plenty of space. Would worry about rain in a pickup. Gives me an excuse to shoot over to Chitown possibly anyway lol. G1

I've driven 4 hours for pizza that lasted an hour...9 hours for something that will last years and years? No question-do it. Just make sure it's exactly what you want, quality wise, before you make the drive. I once drove 9 hours to buy a car, and it wasn't at all what I was told-that'll piss you off real quick.
