Hey guys. So ive given a few of these a try more than once, and am finding them to be really harsh. Ive had both the short story and bestseller, natural and maduro. When I have these, I make sure im not smoking them too fast, and have plenty of water. Still, seems really bitter to me. I havent had many other Fuentes besides a shark, an opus x and a GoF. Those all seemed to be delightful. I have heard a lot of good things about the Don Carlos, Rosado and Chateau, but wondering if I should steer clear. Do any of you guys have similar experiences with the hemingways? If not, maybe I am smoking too fast? Ive been puffing about every min or so. Also they've been sitting for at least 8 months. Interested in your thoughts. Thanks brothers.

I love the Short Story, especially the maduro. Be careful with the light and take it slow. I've never had a "bitter" taste from the dozens I've smoke. Send me a couple and I'll taste test them for you.

Ive always found them to be a nice sweet smoke, and typical Fuente Flavor. yea, maybe slow down so you are not hotboxing and also retorch halfway thru to burn off nasties and freshen it up. Also, lay it down on an ashtray or somewhere will help pull the heat out of it between puffs.

either way, ive never really noticed them to be harsh.

the hemi sungrown variety is where the rott light shines down most brightestly, ive found.
as for the rest, a good naptime wakes the flavor downright Good outta these. with the exception of the fresh OR tasty SSM's that is..

the hemi rosarios were not to shabby iirc too..

I've never gotten a bitter flavor from a fuente before. Could be a storage issue too, are they over humidified?
As far as the others go, give them all a try. You may find one that you really enjoy

just out of curiosity, how do you react to other cameroon cigars? might just be that you don't like that leaf. the hemi signature was my wake up cigar when i was 18 or 19, opened the possibilities. still gladly go back to hemi's and donC.

the magnumR line is different than the core fuente, and you should still try that. if cameroon is not your thing, though, steer clear of the don carlos.

Great question. Well, the only other Cameroon wrapper that I can recall smoking off the top of my head is a nub cammie. And I love it. Was actually going to ask what other Cameroon wrappers you would recommend.

I love the Hemingway line, but I have personally found that 2-3 out of a box of Short Stories will have a horrible bitter taste to them, making them completely unsmokable in my opinion. There is a remote chance that you have only smoked the stinkers that are bound to be found in a handmade product. Also, the Hemingways don't seem to recover very well from abuse, so if somebody else previous to you has over humidified or over heated these, that may affect the flavor as well.

But, all of the above is conjecture, and the answer may be what you have already stated, that they may in fact simply not be for you. I would perhaps try finding some more from a different source and smoking them, then going from there.

Just out of curisoity, when you light them do you let the flame come into direct contact with the foot or are you puffing with the flame a bit away from the end? Tobacco can taste bitter when it burns too hot and most of the time, it comes from the lighting and allowing the flame to come into direct contact with the cigar. If you're puffing only once ever min or so, it wouldn't be from that. The only other thing I can think of is that they are underhumidified, causing them to burn hot. Otherwise, like Gravity said....just may not be a cigar for you.

Personally, I love the Arturo Fuente line-up of cigars. Though the Hemingway Natural is too mild for my taste, I really enjoy the Hemingway Maduro(s). I have not found the Hemingway line, or any of the Arturo Fuente varieties, to be bitter. Take the above advice regarding the humidity and temperature, and how you are lighting your cigar(s), into consideration. Most definately, experiment with other varities within the brand. I highly recommend trying the Anejo, the Rosado, and the Sun Grown.

I wouldn't swear off AF quite yet. Smoke the Don Carlos, Rosado Magnum, etc. I'm. Not a big fan of the Hemingway either, but I enjoy some of the others.
