Finally went ahead to my local store to get my first ever humidor today! Since I've read nice reviews of this model, I decided on the Deauville 100-150 ct, and so far it looks great! I've yet to really get into seasoning and prepping it, and I'm prob gonna toss the analog for a digital depending on how well it works out in the next few weeks. I know I'm most likely gonna go ahead with wiping the interior down with distilled water, but on the instructions it say not to do this.. :/ Anyone got any claricafication or experience with this line?

The reason they tell you not to wipe it down, is some people over do it warp the cedar and ruin it. But if you are very careful to only put enough moisture to just barely alter the color of the cedar you should be fine. Otherwise you can use the boveda seasoning packs or even a dish of DW water and let it rest a week or so.

Thanks for the reply. So instead of doing it multiple times (saw that on cigar obsession), it'll be good to just do it lightly once? Planning on getting some beads for it soon as well.

Naw you may have do it multiple "instances" I.e twice in a two week period depending on the climate where you live. Just throw a hygrometer in there and see how it looks after a week if its below 65% do it again and wait another week

+1 on picking up a digital. Analogs at most are about +/- 7% accurate. Get a Hygroset II. They are accurate +/- 1%. Makes a world of difference

After 12hrs your hygrometer "should" read 70% just remember the whole -/+ thing like if it reads 63% after the salt test you know your hygrometer is approx 7% low. A good range for daily reading should be 63%-68% but when you get beads you'll have no problem maintaining 63-65 if you order 65% HF beads.

+1 on the digital hygrometer, save you tons of headaches down the road. Think the biggest mistake most new guys make with humidors is not giving enough time for the humidor to season properly. Take your time if you rush it you'll have a tough time holding a steady humidity when you put sticks in there

hell yes, good on you! o)

i would STRONGLY urge taking as much time as you can to season. the more time you give, the more gradual the changes are to the wood, and the more the wood will be able to absorb distilled water. wiping down is a shortcut, and do it delicately and sparingly, as has been said.

digi hygro, good. bead humidification, good. sounds like you are off to a great start, good luck and have fun with it!

oh, and any bets on how long until it is outgrown? o)

Another vote for the digital and for beads... Stops a lot of headaches.

One suggestion that was given to me years ago was to take a small amount of the xikar solution to wipe down the humi. Mine were already seasoned at the time so I had no reason to try it. Apparently the solution has an anti mold/fungus agent that could be beneficial. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm thinking about getting the large humidifier from Heartfelt. Have had the hygrometer in there all day is currently around 60% but will def be giving it at least a few more days.

So I got a digital hygrometer today, and gonna order a tube of hcm beads pretty soon. Only thing i'm concerned about atm is that I've just filled the humidifier with tap water instead of the DW I have been using, would I have to replace it or could it be fixed in some way?

I have that exact same humidor! I bought it about a year ago and have used the the hygrometer and humidification system that came with it. It has worked okay, but because of all the suggestions you have received I am upgrading too. Keep us updated, I would like to know what process you use and how it goes. Pictures would be great. Good luck.

Nice, it's been about a week since I've had it, and it's showing to be pretty stable so far with humidity. I got one of those $9 acurite hygrometers. Once I know forsure that it's ready to go, gonna start stocking up! :p haha
