Hi all,
I was gifted a bundle of padrons today by someone that just went down to Nicaragua for some vacation. They're corona sized 1964 anny's in a bundle format. At first I was a little shocked at how much that must have cost them but I was told they were bought for $12. After closer inspection it was immediately apparent they were fakes. My question is two parts: Would you tell the person that gifted you that they're fakes? Should I be any more concerned than normal over a beetle infestation? Right now they're segregated from my main humidor. Thanks!

Peter

PS - I suppose I could freeze them..Photo Sep 16, 2 10 41 PM.jpgPhoto Sep 16, 2 10 55 PM.jpg

First, I would contact Padron and let them know about them with as much info as you can give them.
Second, I'd freeze them and use them as "give to the mooch friend" cigars - or throw them out. Fakes tend to have all sorts of craziness stuffed inside of them.

I'd play it safe and freeze them also. As far as saying something it would depend on what kind of relationship you have with this person. If it was a good buddy I would nicely tell him while still being appreciative, I'd appreciate the heads up so I would know for next time. But kind of a sticky situation you got there...lol

Fake Padrons :shame:. What's the world coming to... You might take one a part and see what they're made of first. Then if they look like they're kosher cigars, maybe try one. If they're not horrible, maybe keep 'em around. As for telling your friend. I probably would, but depending on the situation you may have to find a nice way of saying it.

This isn't the first I've heard of fake padrons in nica... Like mwlabel said, I'd definitely contact padron. I'm sure they'd greatly appreciate the heads up.
If they have beetle issues and they're fake, I wouldn't even attempt to save them. If they were true padrons then it would be worth the attempt to salvage them.
Just my .02¢ man...

So I just pulled one apart and didn't see anything other than tobacco inside. However the construction is worse than anything I've ever seen. As a precaution I've got them squared away in a plastic bag in a small desktop humi I never use. It looks like they're supposed to be the principe at 4 1/2 x 46 yet these are 4". Great call on contacting Padron..

I'll probably just chuck these.

I believe contacting the Padron company is a very responsible thing to do as I would also want to be aware of these products being in the marketplace. The bands on these fakes are obviously a dead giveaway...Great of you to bring this to light pmd... Don't chuck them until you talk to Padron...they may want you to ship 1 or 2 of them to their offices, you never know.

Best Regards,
Antonio

Good call. Who knows what could be in them.

Thanks for all the info! I emailed padron and gave them what information I had albeit not much. I'll hold onto them for awhile in case I get a response.

I say if they taste good, smoke them! Definitely let Padron know of this as well. Maybe they can investigate.

+1, recently got a few cigars as gifts from a friends trip to the dominican... stuffed with banana leaves.

I'd be interested in hearing if they respond to you. I had an issue with one of their Anny's and took pictures and emailed everything to them. Never heard a single word back from them.
