First, mods - please feel free to move this to the appropriate subforum. I figured it was similar to the non-newbie thread, so went with this section.

Would people be interested in doing unbanded trades? I think they're a lot of fun, and a great way to honestly evaluate smokes.

I'd love to participate, with the caveat that the thoughts on everything smoked should be posted in the thread, along with the reveal of what each smoke was.

No point in honest evaluation if we can't pick up more at a later date. :)

Id be down with this.

Hopefully no one turns it into a bashing of something. Where I enjoy yardgar stick, and praise it. Then someone states the obvious and calls me a noob..........

Otherwise Id totally be down for this! Its fun trading! Could be even more fun trading and not having a dang clue whatchya got?!

Id be up for this. I think there should be some clairification of priceing min/max. I know most people like to go above and beyond and all for that but want to make sure that one person doesnt send out a handfull of 3$ sticks and then in return gets a bunch of $10 sticks. want to keep it somewhat fair.

Definitely. I was also thinking that you had to do it relatively quickly so the person isn't waiting forever to reveal the smokes, etc.

Perhaps something that could be discussed between the individuals trading, rather than setting a standard for all of the trades.

Been thinking about something like this for a little while now! Always wondered what the results would be! Price would probably work best discussed between people trading. Would be cool to set up something like 1-2 sticks in the 2-5$ range and 1-2 sticks in the 5-10$ range for example, but still not know which is which.

This sounds great. I'm in. I saw this in another place where they did a trade with one unbanded per trade and then posted a review, then the reveal. Basically, you trade fivers and one is unbanded. Not advocating for this, just expanding the conversation. No matter what, this is great, I'm in.

This sounds like a good idea.

This may work better for some, instead of all the cigars in the trade be unbanded so that turnaround time would be faster as far as getting them smoked and the reviews up. Guess this could also be discussed between the traders and can decide how many unbanded and how many banded. I wouldnt mind doing for example: 2 unbanded and 3 others. Others could still trade all unbanded for unbanded if they wished.

Just throwing some ideas around here...

I'd be up for a fiver trade with one or two unbanded as well. I feel like it would take me forever to get around to smoking five mystery cigars, but I could commit to smoking and reviewing one or two in a reasonable time frame. Count me in!

I dunno.. I think part of the neat thing about a trade like this is you really dont know what you are getting.. what you recieve might be a $2 stick that you would have never tried.. but end up really enjoying because you have no predjudice going in.. or it might be a $12 stick that you find you dont like much at all.. and you dont get pulled in by all the hype..

I think the key is simply to trust that the other members intent is expose you to something that they think is really good, or perhpas overhyped, etc.. and that their heart is in the right place.. and not worry about the price tag...

Maybe set an upper limit and a lower limit (nothing above $12.. nothing below $3 MSRP?).. and then take it from there..

Personally I wouldnt care if I sent out a couple of $10 sticks and got a couple of $3 sticks in return.. as long as I learned something in the process..

actually, that is part of the thrill of something like this, is the gamble. as long as everyone honestly sends out smokes they ENJOY, no harm no foul. i would imagine a little internal policing if it might be necessarry, were someone to try to intentionally trade up. then again, if you can't spare it, don't send it. if you can't smoke it, don't send it.

and, chrisso, don't worry about bashing. a trade like this is to try stuff. hell, you might surprise someone. o)

oh, and if you couldn't tell, put me down as well!

Thats why I think this would be fun.

Side note, I also agree to no real minimum/maximum requirements. That takes the fun way from it IMO.

Why call it a unbanded trade. Cigars will still have to be rebranded with blanks so both parties have a indentifier to accurately review/guess each cigar.... Fwiw I think boundaries are always a good idea. Keeps the sour feelings out of a trade between the 2 parties. Have a total msrp for all five cigars. 50 dollars max. 25 dollars min. If a guy sends out 5 $10 sticks it's his gamble and should know it was just the brotherly thing to do. If he sends out 25 it hasn't broke his bank but will still have a good selection of standards and premiums included. Many possibilities for both those ranges IMO.

Im fine either way and as long as everyone is on the same page I think we are good but just wanted to atleast broach the subject so everyone was on the same page.

What I have always loved is getting together 5ish people, and sending each one of them the same cigar (say, 5 different ones) unbanded, and everyone reviews it on the same thread...

Hmmm...That actually sounds like fun, I am willing to send cigars from my stash, if anyone is interested? I would get together 5 different cigars/sizes/manufacturers, and see if anyone can guess...Each person would pay MSRP prices for the sampler, and there would be some rare/htf in there...

Anyone interested?

Actually I can't do this anyway. My cigars haven't done well on this trip and I need to let them re-acclimate to make sure they aren't ruined.
