Not surprisingly I nearly blew my budget during my first trip to Thomas Hinds (Winnipeg). But I came home with 7 good smokes I'm super excited to try. According to the receipt they are:
-Padron 2000
-Joya De Nicaragua Antano Alisado (1970 I think)
-Cuaba Exclusivo
-Cohiba Siglo VI
-Upmann Royal Robaina
-Arturo Fuente Chateau
-Gold Honey Petite
When I walked into the store Dave was the first to help me by giving me a can of premium butane to fill my lighter with (received it in the mail a couple days ago). He then took me into the store's humidor and gave me a quick run-down of how it's organized (by country by what I can tell). Afterwards a nice fellow by the name of Phil took over. I made sure to tell him I was a newbie and didn't have the first clue about brands and their flavours. Not to worry though because Phil is the man! He's right at home in the humidor and very charming as well :-D He also knows an obscene amount of information about cigars which was great for a newbie like me. Phil took his time to guide me through the different flavour profiles of different brands. He even made it a point to indicate which ones were (in his words) . . . "big coin" and "little coin" so I wasn't just choosing from expensive cigars. After making my selections the next adventure was paying for everything. I watched Phil fumble with the cash register for a bit then I walked out with a huge smile on my face and almost 200 bones less in my bank account, lol.
Smoking indoors has been banned in my house so I will be enjoying these babies as I schlep junk out of one of the storage sheds in my back yard into another and setting up my own mini-wood working shop (just purchased a used band saw to add to the collection of tools)! I'm not a master carpenter and I'm not sure what the hell I'm going to build yet -- at all, but I'm just as exited about that as I was about diving into collecting cigars.
Happy smoking everyone!
