I have a Xikar MTX Multi-tool and I gotta tell ya, the thing works the balls. I prefer it 10 to 1 over a guillotine cutter. I think MSRP on them is $50 with a lifetime replacement warranty, which is nice because should they ever start getting dull, bam, new pair. Highly recommended.

This is why I've gone almost exclusively xikar on all accessories... Excellent warranties and outstanding customer service...

I've still got a few colibri lighters, several old punches, cutters, etc from other manufacturers, etc... But I haven't bought anything new from anyone other than xikar in quite a while...

I like scissors but it's not something you take with you to the B&M...it's pretty much a home thing but a good scissor for cigars is like an artist sculpting his own work of art...it's fun and you can do more with scissors than with a traditional cutter. As was said...buy quality and Xikar is quality.

Thanks, guys. I definitely want to use them at home. I get a better sight line on the right place to cut.

So, to push the question another step: I have seen people use a punch on smaller ring guage, as well as a v-cut. Being new to smoking, which is better? Or are they both just personal preference?

Nice thing about the xikar MTX is that it folds into itself. Easily portable so you can take and use them anywhere. Plus it has other tools you can swing out of it. I've used the little poker on it to loosen up tight draws and to nub out a cigar instead of burning fingers.

I'll second (3rd? 4th?) the Xikar MTX. I use the Scissors more often than any other cutter. The Xikar V-Cutter comes in 2nd in terms of use. I hate guillotine cutters because you can't do that little bit of trim very easily if you get a bad angle on the cut like you can with the scissors. And like Myth said... they fold up and are easily portable. I use the scissors on most sticks, though I'm partial to the V-cut on figurados and occasionally the smaller ring gauges (like lancero or corona).

I've been eyeing the xikar mtx. I've been smoking alot of flake tobacco in my pipe lately and could use the mtx to cube/trim the flake and also use it for cutting my cigars. I keep watching for a deal on one but they always seem a bit expensive.

+1

I have a Xikar Multi-Tool, as well, and love it. I have exclusively stayed with Xikar, in regard to lighters and cutters, due to the lifetime warranty. Quality merchandise.

I've basically thrown away my guiloteen cutter and just use my Leatherman knife. I keep it extremely sharp and it's a joy to cut away the top cap.

I was looking into a multi-tool, but then I used a punch. I happen to like a punch. But with that said, I also use all Xikar products, The warranty is outstanding and they make great products.
