Hey,

I'm interested in this brand because they seem to be doing some interesting things and their small batch production process interests me. Have you of you had experiences positive/negative with Viaje?

I've yet to have a Viaje that kept me interested. Then again, I've only had the Satori, Double Edge Sword, Summerfest, and 50/50

All the Viajes that I enjoy (White Label Project 50/50 2011, Double Edge Sword 2011, Oro Torpedo, Shorts, Exclusivo Lancero, etc.) all have the same problem/issue they need a good amount of time before they really gain a depth to their flavor IMHO but some people like them all, all the time every one is different.

viaje make some sexy and unique (-ish, but that another conversation) smokes. the release patterns can make them annoying, and for some, the smokes neve live up to the hype.

i highly suggest them, in small doses. buy a pair, smoke one, rest one for six months. fnd out for yourself. and, of ourse, enoy! o)

I have really enjoyed the Viaje cigars. Super Shot, several of the SnB lines and the C4. What i don't care so much for ifs the marketing scheme. Brilliant from a retailer standpoint, but as a consumer it gets old chasing these things down.

And as several others have said, they need rest (6 mo to a year), by the time they are smoking good, it is way too late to find more. Many of his cigars are enjoyable, but to each his own. I personally enjoy them.

Only Viaje I have enjoyed was the Double Edge Sword, not worth the chase of getting them(IMO of course).
Mac and I are in complete agreement here. The DES to date has been the only one I truely loved. In all honesty there all okay just not the mind blowers you expect from a small batch that always cost alot. You'll spend more money trying to find a great one then you will smoking one that's just alright.

These are the ones I like enough to purchase:

Exclusivo (exp. lancero, Tower 45th)
Late Harvest
Skull & Bones (with age)
Super Shots
Platino Lancero
50/50

I enjoy quite a few Viajes but its one of those brands were I do not ever pay MSRP for them. Most of the time, the LE price cannot be justified for the cigar you are getting. Wait till people start dumping them for half off and all of a sudden the $5 exclusivo seems like a steal.

They have had some decent smokes but it's hit and miss which makes chasing them and paying MSRP (which tends to be on the high side) not worth IMO

Recently I have enjoyed the super shots and the holiday blend

some observations-
particularly, the viaje platino beli w/ 6-12mo+ age are great.
generally, age for the most of the good blends is key - esp. exclusivo, late harvest and holiday blend
stereotypically, some other blends - 50/50's, oro, s&b & white label are way hit and miss
ostentaciously, the hhg, ss, zombie, & many more to come is wearing thin

I remember buying a box of the first ever Viajes to be released. This was probably back in 08 or 09, I can't remember. I split the box with a friend, smoked them, and then forgot the brand existed.

Then came the never ending onslaught of LEs. I chased a few down and felt supid for doing so after I realized I had WAY overpaid for a mediocre cigar.

I will say that I did enjoy the holiday blend from 09(?) and the DES. Aside from that, you can keep em.

I like cigars with a "regular" lineup. Viaje is way too complicated for me. My B&M gets every Viaje, but I pretty much ignore them.

These conversations always make me smile. I love how we all have different tastes. There is no sarcasm there what so ever. Best advice is you really just have to try them for yourself. I can't tell you how many times someone has suggested a cigar to me and I just couldn't stand it. Then again I love Viaje cigars, I am currently sitting on about 170 different ones and I enjoy them all. Other friends can not stand them. The thing about them is most are power house cigars, a lot of flavor and a ton of vitamin N. The shorter ones do not change much as you smoke them, you see people rate cigars in thirds and talk about the changes. It is hard to have changes in a cigar that is only 4 inches long. You have a few shops here in Washington that carry these cigars so it wont be too hard to pick some up. Best wishes!

Thanks. It's definitely obvious that people have different tastes here. I was thinking about picking up a pair of satoris (smoke one, save one) and maybe a 5er of the M?stery Skull and Bones. Anyone tried those in particular yet?

I've had some great Viaje's and a lot of mediocre/bad one's. The excellent Viaje's sell out quickly as word travels fast.

Before Frakas produced only "limited editions" I used to buy Platino Lanceros all the time. Haven't had them in a while, but they were great.
