Had a random thought pop into my head a few minutes ago. Was looking at oak barrels getting prices and whatnot and thought to myself "self, what would the end result of buying a large quantity of everclear and proofing it then aging in an oak barrel be?" Well self didn't really have an answer so I thought I'd turn here for a little feedback. I think I can get a half gallon of everclear for around $40, proof to 90 will yield just under a gallon, so for $200 for the alcohol and another $150 for the barrel I can age 20L of whisky for around $18 per liter. Just don't know if it would be worth drinking or not lol.

You can buy small one gallon barrels online. A buddy and I make shine once in awhile and age it in a small barrel for about 3 months. I think it turns out good and what's left over we usually make apple shine with. Its always worth a try.

LOL good stuff in just the couple replies! I had a buddy that used to live here that got a still and we made some good stuff but never aged it. I'm thinking about getting a still (for cleaning product purposes only of course) but thought in the mean time i could maybe go the other route. Thinking about using apples as my sis has a couple apple trees in her back yard.
