Trial and error switched things up a bit, decided (with the encouragement of a couple others to put my beads in a thin layer rather than a sock or in a deep pile. I like this method better because I decided to put the beads under a metal grate inside of a disposable baking tray (aluminum) for the love of god tell me this wont be an issue using the metal. I also changed out my KL because I over watered the first batch and it seemed to have broke my beads into little pieces and produced a large amount of dust. Good thin it's only 8 bucks for 100000000 pounds of the stuff.

I don't know how many hits this thread will get, but I suggest that any comments made should include the word "DO-HICKEY"

Thank you

Would thinga-ma-jig be an acceptable substitute or does it have to be do-hickey?

Only on day's that dont end in "Y"

The ribbon cord connected to the Do-Hickey seems to be fine. I am still building humidity up in there and adding to my KL accordingly. It was at 55% this morning after about 1.25 cups of water (got about 1.5-2 pounds in there) so I added the rest of the cup and checked it a minute ago and it was at 60% so hopefully in a few hours it'll be up at 65 for me and I can add my smokes. I was hesitant to add that much water but it seemed extremely dry, plus I live in Arizona so right now the Humidity is anywhere between 15-30%. I know you all care so much so I will keep you updated and post up when I fill it. I should have gotten a bigger cooler, But i just wanted to try it first. I can tell I will fill it up real quick. Happy Turkey day guys, eat lots of Bacon wrapped Shrimp, I will.

That's a great cooler.. That's the one I use!

Enjoy!

I just washed mine and let it dry... Then filled the inside with crumpled news paper over night... Plastic smell was gone!

I wish I had gone 48 qt. I bought a 28qt cooler a year ago and it is packed, along with a smaller cooler filled with a few boxes and singles, plus a desktop.

I think that you may have "overwatered" your kitty litter. From your post it sounds like you just poured the water on it? That's not the best for it because just pouring water on it will cause it to clump and actually be less effective. I know it sounds like it won't get it wet enough but the trick is to get a spray bottle and just mist it. What I would suggest is to put the water in a separate container, seal up the cooler and allow the cigar boxes you have in there to soak up the humidity. (similar to the humidor saesoning tecnique) Once you get the boxes seasoned, add the dry KL back in. wait for one day and then check to see where the humidity is. If you need to bump up the RH level, just mist the KL with a spray bottle. Here in Minnesota the RH sits about 20-25% in the wintertime so I feel your pain regarding the dry climate. What I have found is that 3 sprays of mist with the squirt bottle to my KL will raise my humidity roughly 1% in my cooler.

Well I put it in a panty hoe and rolled it around as I watered it. I watered it with a syringe type dohickey. Patience is not my strong suit. At all. I put in some separate dry stuff in the do hickey to absorb any extra moisture. I got my smokes in it already and it has been sitting at 63 exactly. I assume it will climb over the next couple days. We'll see how it goes.

That looks SWEET!!

Love the idea of using the cookie cooling rack to raise it above the kitty litter. The kitty litter will be a lot more effective spread out like that. The only thing that I would worry about is that if you put steel in direct contact with aluminum (in conjunction with moisture) it will cause the aluminum to corrode. If your "cookie rack" is made of stainless steel or is not touching the aluminum tray it should not be an issue.
