Yet another disservice stemming from the fine folks at CA and their crappy rating system...
The Dale Jr. cigar blend received an ironic rating of 88 (excellent) by Cigar Aficionado
As we all know, merely being made of tobacco, round-ish and actually being able to light it on fire gets a cigar an 85....

Its getting sad and hard to decipher, I think the Feral Pig got a 87 and one of the Gurkha Cellar Reserve sizes (pretty much all of them copy the pig format) got a 90 or 91. Unfortunately for B&M owners and employees, many customers still shop according to CA.

I'd say that is a fortunate thing for b&m owners and employees (as well as those of us who actually enjoy good cigars). Otherwise they'd never move a lot of the crap on their shelves, and the good stuff would be in shorter supply if Joe Public ever caught on to the fact that Gurkha = Garbage etc

Bingo +1; people can buy the 90+ rated gurkhas all day, I don't mind getting stuck with the lower rated feral pigs and such... taking one for the team :innocent:

Its interesting in my area then, we seem to have a good following when it comes to small batch cigars or just hard to find ones. Whether the consumers know what they're really buying or not is another question.

Rofl!

I'd laugh if in a year everyone was flipping out about them & with boxes on eBay for $500!

I actually enjoyed those Cellar Reserves. Gurkhas not all crap.

But better than a FFP? Not on your life.

I remember when the cigar of the year was the Casa Magna Colorado. Cigar of the year! No. 2 was the Padron 80th Maduro, one of the finest cigars I've ever enjoyed.

Then again, the same year, a Black Pearl beat out the Belicoso Fino in terms of stack ranking so... yeah.

AB Prensado #1 last year?

Anyone putting any kind of stock in Cigar Aficionado's advertisements... opps, I mean ratings... shouldn't be allowed to call themselves a Cigar Aficionado.

I still have a Prensado Churchill in my humidor. Right before I joined this crazy place I started reading CA because I wanted to expand my cigar choices beyond the Onyx Reserve I usually smoked. So one of the first issues I read was the top cigars of the year issue. So I immediately went out and bought me some Prensados. I remember thinking, well, this is ok, but is this really the best cigar of the year? So I tried a couple more, and they were the same. So I started searching for more information on want real hardcore cigar smokers smoked. And that led me here...and that is why there is still a Prensado in the humidor. I figure that I will just leave it there for another few years and then give it a try. And I have traded CA for CP and Halfwheel. And man am I enjoying cigars so much more now that I have found BOTL. Of course my wife now thinks I'm crazy...but hey, wadda ya gonna do?
