Nothing wrong with making money, but on this board, there is no gouging. Cigars are sold to brothers/sista's at a reasonable rate. If the seller doesn't like that, they can go elsewhere to peddle their cigars. It's about brotherhood hereWhat is wrong with making money? No one is forcing you to buy a cigar from someone that is charging more than you want to pay? If you want them, pay up. If you don't, shut up, and go buy something else you can afford and are willing to pay for. Cigars are worth what someone is willing to sell them for, and at the same time what someone is willing to pay for them. That's the free market, and the way we used to roll here in the US. If a BOTL is charging too much for his stash, buy them from someone else, simple as that, but don't flame him for wanting to make a buck if he did the work to track something down that is hard to find.
sincere capitalist.
About as succinct and truthful as one can get.If ones intent is to buy HTF cigars with no intention of smoking or collecting them, but merely to flip them for profit, one is a "cigar broker", not a BOTL.
You dont see the hypocrisy in that statement?I have a problem with someone buying a HTF box of the hot smoke right now and trying to make money on it immediately amongst BOTL's. At the same time, I do not have a problem with someone buying for example a box of Cohiba EL's in 2004 for $550 sitting on them for 10 years then trying to move the box for $2000 now.
I think the point is that BOTL is not the place for this. It's fine if you want to do it, but just don't do it on BOTL.You dont see the hypocrisy in that statement?I have a problem with someone buying a HTF box of the hot smoke right now and trying to make money on it immediately amongst BOTL's. +1 on this.I am indifferent to it all. Do what you want as long as it's not charging an ass load on BOTL. Otherwise sell it anywhere else for all I care.
Hey, no worries. It annoys me when I can't find the good stuff because speculators and scalpers got it all too. That's why I choose to involve myself in communities like this one. You're right. I was a bit over the top but I wanted to get across how angry that stuff makes me. And your right with the point that the buyers are to blame as well.
I edited my original post so I don't offend anyone..
Well said, with an emphasis on the word "here." It's why I'm a part of BOTL and other small, brotherly communities.Nothing wrong with making money, but on this board, there is no gouging. No, I don't. Number 1, $500 in 2004 is not equal to $500 in 2014 and number 2, $2000 for a intact box of Cohiba Sublimes is still less than or equal to what the fair mark value is for them now.You dont see the hypocrisy in that statement?I have a problem with someone buying a HTF box of the hot smoke right now and trying to make money on it immediately amongst BOTL's. Fair market on a box of Little Boris is now about $275, so what is the difference? No, I don't. Now THAT'S what it's all about! And in true BOTL form, mr. phaedon, pm me your addy so I can send you an opus so you won't have to bust the cello on your tin and you can save it, collect it, sell it, decide to smoke em, whatever you want.
I actually think there's two separate things in Knickerbocker's example. Buying something and flipping it immediately is simply scalping - you're actually getting in the way, and taking a cut in the process. However, if you've taken the time and effort to age something over ten years, then offered it up to other smokers, you've arguably provided a service to the cigar community in some sense, as opposed to simply getting in the way.Fair market on a box of Little Boris is now about $275, so what is the difference? No, I don't. I have never understood how some people (in general mind you) blow up every time someone puts up a few Tats from a year ago for more then MSRP, but with Cubans, it is apparently ok.
Selling for more then MSRP is selling for more then MSRP. It does not matter WHAT it is. And if you (the general "you) have a problem with one, then you should have a problem with the other, no?
Says the guy who just bumped it to the topCan we please let this thread die?
