For every thing you've seen posted here, I can guarantee you there are a dozen more that haven't been publicized. This brotherhood is one of the most selfless groups of people you will ever meet. Friendships made are truly like brothers. And that includes many of the industry big dogs. Ain't nothing like it,nowhere!!!!

Every day on BOTL is filled with hospitality and generosity that I've seen on no other forum. I've witnessed mass bombings, Secret Santa gifts that would make any man scream like a child, financial aid, and many other selfless acts. I was away from the forum for 2 years so I missed a lot but I'll surely be here for the next big moment. The internet is full of depravity and infallible phonies but this place is truly a community of friends and I look forward to meeting you all.

I've thought about this a lot over the past few hours. This place is defined by its hospitality, camaraderie, and generosity. I tried to branch out to a few other forums this year because I'm that big of a geek. I spent some time at each and there's nothing bad about them, but they're not this place. There is something special here and it's worth guarding and contributing. I've not met another BOTL in person because of location, job, and family but there are plenty on here, who, if I ever needed anything, would see that I am taken care of, and I would do the same for them. This place is about a lot more than cigars.

I'll shut-up now.

just worth reposting, because you nailed it, adam. cigar smokers are a singular group, and BotL is a singular place amongst them. o)

It's just the way BOTL is... We all like to help and that's why we're here. Everyone here is good folk, I honestly can't think of one person I dislike here and that says a lot. <3's

It's not from this year, but the quintessential example of what BOTL is came last year after that F5 chewed up a large swath of Joplin. One of the first calls I received was from funkejj checking on me and the family. Though shaken and damaged, we were okay and the support/well wishes/prayers/advice/general good thoughts from the guys here was more than I could have imagined.

Absolutely nailed it. Just wait until I get a job... You guys are gunna be sorry hehe

I really think the "not my thing" box pass is a golden example of the types of people and what type website BOTL is. And I'm not even in the pass lol

JD is a class act, no doubt. But I think the BOTL community's response to Craig Mac's situation takes the "award" for this year.

So many great acts this last year, and I agree the response to CMac's fire was outstanding. But for me personally, my stand out moment was earlier in the year. Around Jan-Feb I was going through some difficulties & "unplugged" for a couple weeks. In the midst of it, three of the guys from BBM decided to cheer me up. As they knew I had recently gotten into coffee, Tommygunz sent me a huge bag of beans, SuprHasan sent me a french press, and Theribdoctor sent me a grinder and another bag of beans! Ribby also went an extra step and sent a DVD for my son & jewelry for my wife & daughter! It meant so much to me to know 3 guys I've never even met went out of their way just to brighten my mood, and it will never be forgotten.

In the years I've been on BOTL I have seen this place explode with all sorts of generosity and good will towards it's members. I have met many great friends and met da big guns of cigar makers (DE, PJ, DPG, and Skip). For me I can't pin down just one highlight of any given year here. I am just thankful to be a part of it.

W.B. - what you wrote makes me so proud of Pedro, Jessi and all the DE brothers who been putting in so many years with me. Pedro been with me for 7 years and Jessi like 12. Thankfully, the lawyer got Pedros work visa done and he will be coming to work here in the US for DE so he can take his game one step further. He is a real asset and Im so appreciatiove that you mentioned him and appreciated his good and caring nature.
That is fantastic news, JD! Love Pedro and will look forward to seeing him on US soil!

I would like to add another story about JD that goes on to show the genuine compassion he has for his customers.

My dad and I had a rough relationship growing up. 99% of it was because of his alcohol addiction. Long story short he quit drinking when I was 17 and we barely spoke for a few yrs after that. I took up cigar smoking as a hobby and he decided to try it as well. It was his attempt to find something for us to do together...or at least something for us to talk about. Now my dad has become one of my best friends and we routinely bond over DE cigars. We make it an effort to go to most DE events in the Chicago area when JD is in town. The first time my dad met JD he told him how he smoked LP No.9s while mowing the grass. Ever since then, whenever I see JD and my dad isnt along, the first thing he asks me is, "hey, hows your Pop's?"

Fast forward to this past summer. 3 weeks before my wedding in the Dom. Rep my dad had an emergency bypass surgery and wasn't able to go to our wedding. He was very upset because not only have we become close, but he absolutely adores my wife.

At the BOTL Herf at Casa de Montecristo they raffled off a trip to Cigar Safari for this February. I was lucky enough to win it. When I went up to JD he says, "I hear your dad had heart surgery, how is he doing?" My dad actually came to the event so I told JD he was there. JD found my dad, went up to him and said, "Pops! How are you doing? I heard you had an operation and couldnt go to your son's wedding? Well...ya know what, you need to spend some time with your kid...I'm sending you on Cigar Safari with him."

I think I posted this story once before but it needs to be told again. He didnt have to do that. Needless to say my dad, myself and our family are extrememly greatful for JD and DE. That act of generosity literally made my Dad's year and its all he can talk about when I see him. We're super jacked and excited to hang with the BOTL guys and DE crew in Nica in a month. Thanks JD. Words cant express how appreciative we are.

SBB, that story really is awesome. Always knew JD was a good guy, but that is fantastic.

I kinda share the same story as ATL, as we started around the same time. Entered a raffle to help another brother out, and after, researched it a bit, and was blown away on the compassion that was displayed. The overwhelming support for someone that maybe youve never even met face to face. Was outstanding. I knew I had found the right forum. In reality, more of a brotherhood than just a website. Love coming on here multiple times a day, just to see what someone has to say, or how their day is going. Puts a smile on really. Good stuff guys, good stuff.

This thread is just cool as hell to read.... I didnt know about half of this stuff. Some things I knew about, and have been amazed by everyone on here. Great, great people.

And like a few posts ahead of this one, there are soo many, many other great, unaccounted for acts that some of us may never hear about.
