Hey guys,

I'm very new to storing cigars but since I'm new Ive been buying some samplers and need more space. Ive been researching humidors and the best i could come up with the Prince humidor by Maverick

(I would post a link but i don't have a high enough post count)

I really like the drawers since i have so many different types and varieties of cigars. does anyone have some advice on this humidor or maybe a better one for what I'm trying to achieve? Ive read a lot about drawers making some humidors not as air tight and didn't know if anyone has any experience with drawers or even this particular humidor. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

my first recommendation would be to set up a cooler. cheaper and quicker to get going, use empty boxes to sort, and then you have time to look around for something decent that EXACTLY fits your needs. once you find it, you can still use the cooler as a cooler. o)

also, if you just joined and have no TR yet, there is a good chance you will outgrow whatever you may buy now. we have that effect on people.

If your handy and you finances allow,a wineador is a really fun project. You get a really classy look and great control over your storage. You can do a system complete with shelves made to fit for about $400.

I've got less than $120 in my wineador...

Picked up a wine cooler on craigslist for $20...

Spent $64 on 4 trays from Forrest...(including shipping)

Another $30 on humidity...

$114 all in... And I was done...

It's small... Just a 12 bottle... But I've got about 200 sticks in there right now... And still have some room to spare...

It cost me less than the 150 count desktop I've got... And I enjoy it much more...

Don't limit yourself with just a wine cooler. If stored in the basement any non-functioning refrigerator or freezer will also make for great storage. Check out link in signature.

thats actually probably my next expansion project :)

I live in a college town... finding one of those small "dorm" type refrigerators on Craigslist dirt cheap is easy around here.. (one that is only about 3' tall, but will fit in a closet, etc..)...

We keep the house at about 68 degrees year round... and humidity around here is pretty easy to manage..

Ive been thinking this will probably be the way to go once I am ready to step up to the next level of storage...

I literally just saw one listed last week for $10.. I should have jumped all over it (although it probably would have sent the kitchen boss into heart failure..)

A nice wine cooler sounds more up my ally, although I'm really loving the Full fridge idea.

I saw some guys on here have made some pretty sweet projects out of making some of these "wineadors" but what would be your guys opinions on the best way to control temp and humidity? I've seen several 18-28 bottle thermoelectric wine refrigerators under 200 bucks brand new that have built in temp controls so adding a humidity control would be my only obstacle. whats the best temperature to keep cigars? I've noticed a lot of the temp controls only hold at mid 65 for the fridges I've seen and after reading other posts it seems to be a toss up for even keeping the thing plugged in. so far I've mostly seen a stripped fridge or wine cooler and then the temperature, air circulation, and humidity controls are added afterwards.

of course i also can't forget shelving, do you guys have any good places for buying Spanish cedar?

"decent sized humidor"

this still gets me... i think a "decent sized humidor" is as imaginary as Santa and the Easter Bunny, thanks to the "slippery slope."

Welcome to the madness, brother!

heartfelt beads are THE best investment you can make in a humidor, IMHO. they just plain work.

forrest on here has made a LOT of great woodwork for a lot of members, if you want to dress it up. or store in box, and get enough cedar that way.

temp control with the wineador is easy... just set to temp and leave it alone.. mine is programmed at 65 degrees.. and stays there rock solid all the time..

Ive got solid humidity as well.. I agree with jj on the beads... thats the fastest, simplest, most idiot proof way of doing things (and therefore my first choice)...

it really depends on how big of a wineador you are talking about though...

In my little 12 bottle box Ive gone way overboard and put in about a pound of beads.. and have thrown in 4x 65% bovedas as well..

the truth is, as small as it is.. I could have accomplished perfect humidity with the bovedas alone most likely..

As far as cedar is concerned.. Im waiting on my trays to be delivered from Forrest... in the meantime I have gone the route that JJ has described.. Ive got 4x churchill size boxes in there, plus two smaller boxes as well... and have all the boxes filled will sticks...

I also picked up a spanish cedar board from a local lumber supply place that carries a pretty decent variety of "exotic" woods and made myself 2 shelves..

once the trays get here the boxes will go the way of the do-do bird.. but the shelves will remain in place..

You can make a very nice coolidor for not a lot of money......mine has 3 shelves with drawers, and ample box storage below. And with a little work, and hunting down deals is very affordable. In total, my 300+ stick coolidor cost be well under $100.

Well after a lot of research i decided to pull the trigger on a 28 bottle wine cooler. found a pretty good deal on sale so it kinda made up my mind for me lol. now i just gotta get some beads and hopefully get enough play around money to get some nice shelves for it.
