Nice choice for a first handgun. When I ran a shop and range we had a 1st gen 17 still running strong after more than 500K rounds. A few primary components went in that period, but it just kept running like a top. Buy some nice sights like TFOs and have fun!

Great choice! The G17 is the first gun I ever bought & it's still my favorite many years later. Thousands of rounds through it & it's never jammed - not once. It's the one I keep in my nightstand too. :)

It was used, and included 550 rounds of ammo. Paid $450 to an individual.
Def a good deal especially if that's pd ammo. I meant what purpose tho.

What is pd ammo?

Purpose, home defense, and possible CC weapon. Would also look at either the 19 or the 26.

Personal defense/hollow point as opposed to ball or target ammo which is cheaper but at 500 rounds would still be a great deal. Cool tho...whatever you decide to cc remember don't just practice shooting it ...practice drawing it.

Love glocks, love my 17( was my first as well). The great thing about glocks is they just work! In California we can only have 10 round mags... Man I wish I could have a 17/30 round mag, they look like pen dispensers with the 30's. Enjoy it, although I have a suspicion you'll end up with something a little smaller if you plan on CC much, hard to hide a full size frame.

Maybe for you. I can easily conceal a full size gun.
agreed....

I normally carry a G19....

but...

I ccw'd a govt model 1911 for years...

and worked plain clothes... with a sig p229, 2 spare mags, a light, a 16" asp, a pair of flex cuffs, and a radio... while wearing a suit.. or a "camp" style shirt and pair of khakis.. depending on the day... for a couple of years.. without any issues..

its all about how your gear is rigged.. how your clothes are tailored/cut.. and how you present yourself..

Back when I only had one pistol, I concealed an HK USP full size with safety. Wasn't comfortable, but the thing disappeared with the correct carry method. I ALMOST preferred to have the gun be always uncomfortable, that way you always remembered you're carrying it. I don't like it when people say, I can't even tell I have it on me or Its so comfortable I sometimes forget its there. That being said, I'm glad I switched to my less painful to carry HK P30, can still feel it at all times, but I don't have a giant square crease milled into my skin anymore.

I feel you also, at 6'4 and 290 lbs, I don't think it should be a problem hiding it. The 19 was only a half to 3/4 of an inch shorter. Not that much of a difference.
Yeah that's why I didn't say anything about that lol. If u can CC it you can CC it. I just see a lot of cc people practice shooting but not drawing

Dang guys! All I was saying is you have more options/ comfort while carrying a smaller frame. I'm also not a big guy, which probably has something to do with it..
