I just grabbed an edgestar 16 bottle wine cooler off of Craigslist right by my house for 50 bucks new in the box. Really excited as I have wanted one for awhile. Do you guys have any tips on shelving systems or something that isn't super pricey. I am sure in the future I will get custom ones so I am trying to go on the cheap till I do thanks guys.

That's a great deal! Remember removing the plastic smell before putting in the cigars!! Hehehe.

For storage, have you thought about Spanish cedar trays from Cheaphumidors? They have them for $10 bucks a piece (or less). Which would be nice for you.

Thanks yeah those look like a great deal. I was almost thinking of modifying some undercrown boxes to use but will have to see. Yeah I put a box of baking soda in for now. Yeah I was pretty stoked on the price and how close he was. I know wineadors.com is a good source for custom is there any others anyone would recommend?

Zen,

I would do the cheaphumidors.com trays on this guy. The ONLY reason I say that, is because you may find yourself surpassing the limit on a 16btl cooler in a month. I did the same a month ago..... Now I'm looking at the 28's.

Personally Im waiting to do the custom shelving on a bigger box, as too save money. Then use the 16 count for aging boxes.

In the meantime you could just use some empty cigar boxes, or buy the $10 trays.

Congrats on the buy.

Oh and IMO, there's no difference in those $10 trays, and using just some empty cigar boxes. Both will get the job done the same way.

So there's your "on the cheap answer".

Zen,

Ive used empty cigar boxes in mine while I have waited on custom trays from forrest.. they have worked just fine.. they give me all the cedar I need, help keep the humidity balanced, etc..

that said.. if youre ordering trays.. I would recommend going the custom route on the front end.. not the back...

I got forrest to build my trays to the exact specs of my wineador... for just a couple of bucks more per tray than the generic ones you can find on fleabay, etc..

His "small" trays were too small.. but his medium trays were 1" too long to work for me... so I just ordered mediums, and asked him to make mine slightly shorter (wasnt a problem at all)...

the single biggest issue I have with cigar boxes is they are inefficient in terms of space.. I am loosing a lot of storage room because a "flat" type churchill box is too wide to fit 2 boxes side by side ... but a "cube" style box is too tall to fit two on top of each other between my shelves.. they also dont fit my wineador from the front to the back.. so I loose space that way as well...

again.. dont get me wrong.. cigar boxes have been a FREE way to use the wineador right from the get go.. I have really enjoyed it.. and Ive probably got 150-200 sticks in there right now..

my guess is when my trays show up from forrest that my storage capability will probably increase by 60-70% though (Im betting I can fit 300+ sticks in there easy).. I got mine built so that they are exactly 1" narrower and 1" less deep than my wineador.. and when stacked on my shelves I will loose 1/2" of space between the top of the tray and the next shelve up..

for just a couple of more bucks per tray than the generic ones..

I think the customs cost me a total of $18 more than the generics would have..

for less than a $20 bill.. I thought that was absolutely the right way to go... (not to mention, I dont have to buy trays twice now...)....

Wow that's crazy I didn't realize the difference was that small. Wait is yours around the same size Dave, also what trays did you order?

Yeah I found undercrown boxes fit two per shelf so I might try and get a bunch of these for the time being. At least till I figure out if I will get custom ones or upgrade.

Mines just a 12 bottle... you should have one more wire rack in yours than I have.. but Im guessing theyre probably pretty close in terms of depth and width... Im guessing you could fit at least 1 more.. possibly 2 more trays in yours than I can fit in mine..

I ordered the medium trays from Forrest... I just asked him to make mine 10x12x2 as opposed the the normal 10x13x2 medium tray he makes.. they were just $13.50 a tray (the generic fleabay trays are $10-$11)..

the interior dimensions of my cooler are 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 14...

I picked up 4x trays.. the way I have my shelves arranged (I made my own spanish cedar shelves out of a board that I cut to size.. and removed the wire racks), I will be able to fit all 4 trays in.. plus have room for a few boxes at the bottom..

Right now Ive got 4x churchill boxes in there with various sticks.. plus a couple of smaller boxes... and a small tray...

the trays from forrest will optimize my space a whole lot better.. and will make things a little easier to get at as well...

16 1/2....14.....12 1/4 are the deminsions I found online for my interior. I think if shelves end up around 100 or so ill do that for sure. Yeah I am pretty excited I think ill do a few shelves and then maybe a few wood racks for box storage.

you could probably fit his standard large trays in there without a problem at all (looks like they would be an almost perfect fit.. theyre 12x13x2)... Im guessing you could go 5x trays ($85)... and still have room for boxes..

I bought a used new air 18 bottle off of cl in dec for $100. I ordered trays from Forrest dec 29 and stoked for them to come in. I know he's a busy man so you might have to wait like 6 weeks but I'm sure it's worth the wait. I would go with Forrest
