This blue guy is kicking my ass. Hard.

What have you been doing recently for training? What are you working on? Short-term plans? Long-term?

Most importantly... If you don't have a shot timer, what's your excuse? :nono:

Ive been using the surfire shot timer app on my iphone lately.. mostly because Im lazy and dont want to go digging through my range bag digging for my PACT when the phone is already on my hip.. its not perfect.. but its a free app.. and works reasonably well..

anyone that doesnt own a shot timer.. but owns an iphone or a droid should download it.. youll always have your timer on you after that.. (and its free)...

Pistol/rifle drills vary depending on the range/location.. the indoor range that is closest to the house doesnt allow shooting from the holster, rapid firing, etc.. so trips there normally result in tedious work outs and focus on fundamental skills.. so that every round lands in the 9 ring or better at 15 meters and beyond... (slow, methodical, shooting...)

When I can make it to the outdoor range.. and/or a couple of other locations.. focus normally is on rapid hits, weapon transitions, shooting from various positions, etc.. lots of bill drills.. lots of el presidente's.. etc.. (shooting is more "combat" oriented)..

I need to get my butt back in gear and start playing with the local IDPA crew around here.. I just havent found the time or energy in the last several years.. and honestly the "gamers" that attend those events tend to drive me nuts..

A timer is a timer. The app ones work great for a lot of stuff. My Pocket Pro is at the foot of my bed, so it's just what I always use.

I've been doing a lot of dry fire, back to the fundamentals stuff. Which is a bit difficult without proper instruction, but whatever. Trial and error.

My timer was getting a bit of neglect. These past couple weeks, and especially these past couple days... it's been earning its keep. That said, it shows I haven't been using it. My open draw is consistently at 1.5, and my concealed draw is consistently 2.25. I'm also not any faster AIWB than I am OWB strong side... which is really, really, REALLY lame.

My reloads are also DISGUSTING. I was hitting about 1.75 for on target, reload, back on target (no slide release). Very disappointing. I really need to get into a class to hammer fundamentals.

Also, go shoot IDPA and USPSA. It's fun. Ignore the a-holes. There's always some. For me, it's usually less the gamers and more the fudds who pretend they know how to shoot (among a billion other things).

Club timer or whatever the one is called they sell on Bravocompany. I love timers - pushing yourself to improve is fun!

For dry fire drills I have a SIRT trainer (I freaking love it) and AR Bolt. Haven't played with the AR bolt yet since I don't have any single-stage triggers anymore, but it was free so who cares?

I'm very tempted to pick up a SIRT. The only issue I have is no training partner, which makes the SIRT completely useful. It's still good without one, but it can easily lead to the shooter watching for the laser instead of the sights.

Let us know how you like the AR bolt should you ever get to try it out.

OMG force-on-force with SIRTs and serious eye protection would be awesome! I can do a lot of shooting around/under/inside vehicles with the SIRT and it's a real eye-opener as well.

1.75s at what distance to what size target? Have you ever tried the FAST drill on pistol-training.com? Todd Green's drills and instruction have pushed me to new levels.

The fast drill: just use an IDPA target with a 3x5 notecard over the eyes (A zone) and a 6" paper plate over the chest. Range is 7 yards.
for time:
draw from concealment, 2 rds to the 3x5 card, slidelock reload, 4 rds to the paper plate

THAT will push your reloads hard! My best time was 5.75s with all hits. Todd can do it 1.5s faster. Glock team guys can do it in under 3 seconds 0_0

5 yards to a 2" circle.

I love the FAST. I think it's one of the best tests of fundamentals when employed properly.
