Has anyone had this, and how is it? I was out last weekend and had the 15yr, it was outstanding. I just can't justify paying $85 a bottle.

Thoughts and comments are appreciated!

I only had a glass of it, so it's not much an evaluation. But, I certainly enjoyed it. Not sure what the bottle retails for in the real world (local liquor stores have crazy stupid prices), but if you can get it for a fair price... give it a try.

The fine oak is good but I prefer the normal Macallan 12. JW is crap IMHO. I had a few nips of JW black that I tried to drink the other night and it was horrific.
This. And I think it should be said that Chivas and JW are blended....

I'm not a big scotch guy. I just know a lot of guys say how it complements a cigar nicely.

I don't have much knowledge on the topic but I know that JW and CR are blends. From friends I've talked to, they say the blends are more of an acquired taste.

I'd like to stick to single malts and nothing that is going to break the bank.

Good point on the blended vs single malt. Not a blended fan myself.

You should attend a Mac Tasting Session. Been to two of them. I like the Mac 17 YO the best. 25 is just too expensive!

Where are these tasting sessions you speak of?
We go to them all the time sometimes at the palm and other places I don't remember if we get notified by the establishment or by macallan tho

If you want to try something else try the 12 year Balvnie Double wood. Around the same price as Mac 10 but much better in my opinion.

Agree with the Balvenie 12 Doublewood - very nice, also the Dalwhinnie 15. Both nice single malts, good prices, and a little smoother than the Mac's

I'm not sure if I'm going to use the proper terminology but the CR and JW had a lot of bite to them. That's what I want to get away from.

I'm being cautious about I buy because I don't want to spend $50 on something I will hate.

I've read a few reviews on both 10 & 15yr and they are supposed to be pretty close.

Well how much did you pay for a shot? If it was outstanding to youI'm sure 85 bux is a bargain and will be well worth it over time

Haha, one small glass was 15 bucks. So ya looking at it the way you put it, it's worth the price. I just though maybe there was a cheaper alternative. The 10yr is half the price for a bottle. Was curious if anyone has had both and if they were similar.
