So, I have a dead mini fridge which I'm turning into a fridgeador. Got a bunch of empty boxes to break up for lining and to use for storage, and now I need humidification. I'm thinking of going the kitty litter route, as its affordable, but u wanna make sure I get the right thing. Are both of these ok? I believe they're both silica beads.....ImageUploadedByTapatalk1362969145.035562.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1362969159.344492.jpg
I'm hoping the first one is ok as it's a 4lb bag for $4 which should be enough for a mini fridge....

I think exquisicat brand is the most commonly used (what I see most people talking about)... But I think any brand that is 100% pure silica and fragrance free would be just fine...

4lbs is enough to last you for years and years in a mini fridge...

Awesome, thanks! I'll probably pick it up tomorrow....a pound is enough, right? How do you regulate RH with litter?

The Mimi Litter is what I use. $4, no scent and it works AWESOME. Keeps my cooler and desktops consistantly at 65%

you can see how I have it in the bottom of my cooler in this photo

You're going to probably have to spray them... But out of the bag they are usually high 50s to low 60s RH I think... So I would recommend putting them in dry at first.. Give it 24 hours to get an accurate read on where you're at.. Then give it a few squirts... Wait another 24 hours... And see how much you changed things...

It took me 2 days to get to 65 RH... Been holding there rock solid for a few weeks now...

I stopped and looked at that brand last night and almost bought it, but didn't know for sure I could use it. Now I know. Thanks, Rupe!

Now I have a question. Do you have to spray water on them or do they go in dry?
Out of the bag it is around 60%. When setting it up I will give it 4-5 sprays and then give it a day or so for the humidity to stabilize. if It is still lower than I want I will give it a couple more sprays, wait another day and repeat as necessary. If it gets overhumidified, just add a little extra litter.

What are the blue things in it?
I"m pretty sure they are just there for aesthetics. There is no scent to it and the blue crystals are the same as the white ones, just a different color. I have been using it for 8+ months now without any adverse affects on my gars. Actually my burn issues have virtually disappeared since I have started keeping my sticks at 65%. Also before smoking anything that I buy at a B&M, online or get in a trade I usually keep it in the cooler for at least a month to make sure the humidity is correct.

How much you spray will definitely depend on where you live. Just a few spritzes never got me anywhere here in nevada where its very dry. But I'm sure if you live in a more humid place it is much different.

Rupe is giving the right advice....the blue crystals are in there from the Vendor to reduce the odor of when cats do their "thing" but picking out those crystals is nothing one needs to do. Some will try and tell you to buy the crystals w/o the blue ones...nothing to worry about whatsoever. One thing about KL is if you live in a very cool environment and you don't keep your house around the 65 degree temp then you might see the RH drop because KL needs to operate in a steady temperature environment. I've heard of some who keep their homes in the 60 degree temperature range while they are at work then adjust the temps into the comfortable range after they get home....this will cause your RH to drop by as much as 5 percent. Keep your place around 65 degrees for your KL to work effectively.

That is for sure! I have a broken 32 bottle wine fridge I have packed around for years, I'd say about 4 years. I still have KL that I got when I first got the fridge, amazing stuff.
