Hello all. I just finished a hidden room walk in humidor for a client and found myself with 200 bf of Spanish Ceder leftover. Im a new smoker and have been doing some trading around here and boy did I out grow my desktop humidor!!! As a cabinet maker when I have extra lumber I start thinking about projects and this time Im working on piece of furniture so I can ditch all the Tupperware I'm using . Ok so the question I have is what are the must haves on your cabinet style humidors that you all like. I was thinking in the bottom section I would put shelves to store boxes that will eventually come. In the top a few roll out shelves with dividers with adjustable shelves above . I have a few rolls of motion activated LED's that I will put in to light up the unit when Im inside. I was thinking about building a sealed box that i can mount a electric box inside or do you think a chase would be better with a box on top and bottom. One thing I was thinking about was should I seal off between bottom and top so I can start filling in one section say the top and when my collection grows move into the bottom.

Thanks for any input guys
David

Sounds like a great project. I'm no expert, but good air circulation is key so I'd ventilate all shelves and leave room around the perimeter for that. Also, not a bad idea to have a separate top and bottom because it enables you to run two levels of humidity if desired and may make it easier to keep the unit stable.

Thanks. Ill plan the shelves to be a grid type of patern and never thought about the 2 sides at a different humidity but I can do that for sure !

No advice in particular, just maybe take a look at some of the cabinet the same size out there and think "That would be really cool if it had ______"

And thanks for great smelling coffee. As soon as dinner settles a little I'll be making some of this new stuff.

Cheers :ccool:

Don't overlook storage space for accessories, etc... A compartment at the bottom or a large drawer should work...

Gotta have somewhere to put your torches, cutters, matches, butane bottles, 5 finger bags, etc...

+1,000 when I built my cab I put a large drawer on it thinking "ill never fill this with accessories".... 4 hours later it was full and more than necessary long-term.

Good air circulation is key. Depending on the size of the cabinet, make sure there is space for the humidifier (preferably out of sight). Seperate compartments (i.e. a top drawer and lower level shelves) are a bonus when storing cigars at differing humidity levels. Glass front or top for your viewing pleasure (the view outweighs the risk of humidity loss).

Go look at ones available (as mentioned)...like Avallo and other top custom cabinets. then make modifications to your ideas/specs to suit your needs.

I'd love to see some PICTURES of your work! A "hidden walk in" sounds amazing, but I'm not really sure what it means, lol.

The hidden walk-in in this house is behind a bookcase that i had hardware custom made so when you come up to it you push a button on a key fob the case slides out of the way to access a door into the room . Walk-in is on a wall that we converted a closet . I did follow a post I found on the forums for some ideas as to the conversion . The bill for this hidden room was more than my annual pay for the next 4 years!!
