Periodically I keep an eye out for a wine cooler project. I keep seeing this one pop up. Seems like a reasonable price. Problem is I 1 cannot tell if it is thermoelectric and 2 it doesn't seem to have the correct temperature range. Is that something that can be worked around? Also never heard of Danby so is it a reliable company to base a project off of?

Thanks for your input

An external temp controller like ETC can fix the temp range but I know thermoelectric is a big + of the ones usually chosen

IIRC you are up near columbus? as long as you keep your house temp stable, you wouldn't NEED need the temp controll like our brothers in the deep south or southwest would. in that case, you could just use it as an insulated cab. then again, for $120, i would wait until i found a better match.

It's definitely a compressor model. You can tell because the bottles on the bottom are sideways since the compressor is behind them. And ETC will regulate the temp for you just fine. A compressor model will actually work as long as their aren't major temp fluctuations and the unit doesn't have to run often to maintain the temp, but if you live in a place where the cooling has to be running a lot, you definitely need thermo-electric. Compressor models also need additional rh medium over what a thermoelectric would require.

I second the coffee man... at $120, keep looking.
