Hey folks...

So last night, after a Liga Privada #9 robusto, ended up with the dreaded cigar sickness. This happens about 1/4 of the time, doesn't matter if it's CC or NC. Any thoughts? Has anybody had this issue, and if so, how did you deal with it?

Thanks!
Ian

Has only happened twice to me and the one time it was bad. Cold sweats and nausea. Token a cold shower and drank some water and felt better. Thought it was crazy :sarcastic

Make sure you smoke on a full stomach and well hydrated.

Sugar helps counteract the nicotine, so a very sweet beverage during the smoke helps. If you're still feeling the sick coming on after the smoke, start pounding sugar packets.

Don't smoke too fast.

Like drinking, know your limits. X amount of nicotine may be fine for some, and too much for others. No shame in that.

-smoke slower
-stay hydrated
-keep some sugar on hand
-smoke slower
-explore less heavy offerings

personally it is REALLY rare for me, but i keep a stash of ginger ale on hand just in case the dread vitamin N rears it's head; a little hydration, a little sugar, and pairs fairly well with a smoke.

EDIT: damn collegiate ninjas! o)

I'm a big fan of Root beer with cigars, this stuff to be exact, the subtle flavors really go well with a cigar, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, it's a match made in heaven .. or cuba I guess. (or mb you're preggers lol)

Again on the sugar. Definitely fights off vitamin N attacks. Keep a packet or two around or have a nice sweet tea with a smoke. Love me some sweet southern style tea (aka 2/3 sugar 1/3 tea!) ;-)

every now and then Ill let a stick sneak up on me (Fausto tends to be the most common culprit)..

all the recommendations above are spot on...

take preventative actions.. have something sugary on hand prior to lighting up... only fire up full bodied smokes after a big meal.. and smoke slow... that will solve 99% of the problems..

If I am wanting to smoke something early in the day.. or in the middle of the day without a recent meal in the belly, etc.. Ill normally select something mild or medium in body.. and just take it slow and easy... and usually combine it with a sugary cup of coffee.. or a root beer.. or one of my favorites is orange crush :)

I'm surprised no one said Mexican Coke yet. It pairs well with pretty much any full body/strength cigar and it's got tons of sugar in it to counteract nicotine sickness.

Echoing others...Hydration is key. I will drink a glass or two of water before a smoke. I avoid sugary sweet drinks so as not to alter the (often subtle) notes in a cigar, but that's just my humble opinion :)

I have had this happen but I went on a fully body cigar rage one night while out. After 4 back to back I had the sweats and had to take a seat. Personally I really enjoy a good sweet tea with a stick I think it helps me pick out a few things now and again.

The LFD Double Ligero hit me last night... I did have a fairly substantial din din, but I think I was too dehydrated (and the Gin wasn't helping any).

All above recomendations are true: Eat, Hydrate, keep Sugar on hand just in case.

Side note, from first hand experience: whatever you do, do not drink coffee if you start to feel the nic-kick coming on... the caffeine has a compounding effect, and you might end up tossing your drawers in the trash if you aren't careful.

Not dead, just have several pair of shorts that look like you hit a deer :)

These guys are dead on with suggested solutions and preventative measures to the sweats and nausea. For me, cigar selection vs time & size of last meal is a big factor. Good luck.
