Temp is a matter of choice... but most around here prefer 65 I believe... (I do).. I wouldnt let it get any warmer than 70 if you can keep that from happening...

500 sticks in a single wine cooler is going to take going with a large one (I'd think 28 bottles or larger)... and going to require organization so that you can maximize use of the space.. I'd look at some custom trays and/or drawers from Forest.. (www.wineadors.com)... I could fit about 250 sticks in my little 12 bottle cooler.. but it took me using every square inch of space, and stacking sticks to the absolute tops of the trays... and getting trays built that took up every inch of space inside the cooler... I smoke a lot of petite coronas and other "smaller" sized cigars... probably 90% of what I kept stored in there was robusto sized or smaller.. were I trying to store a bunch of 60 RG stuff, or churchills, etc.. I probably would have been limited to 200 sticks or less in there..

Unless you are wanting to store 500+ cigarellos.. I dont think you have a chance in hell of getting your entire stash in an 18 bottle unit... I think you are going to have to go much bigger..

I have to agree with mdwest. There is no possible way you are going to fit 500 sticks in an 18 bottle cooler. I have a just over 400 sticks in my 32 bottle cooler and I'm almost out of space. I use boxes to store my sticks, and it works fine. I like using the boxes because I can store certain brands in certain boxes so i know where everything is. Then, when you need to rearrange the boxes to make more room your not always handling the cigars. just my .02 on that.

Before you buy at Lowes, check Craigslist, you can usually get a great deal on a wine cooler. You will spend the same price for a bigger unit as the brand new unit your looking at at Lowes.

Good luck in your search. Just remember, always buy bigger than what you need. Your going to fill it eventually anyway.

Well, if I am going to finance that, I may as well get enough for divorce proceedings, cause that's what that will get me.... Although..... It may worth.. Now stop that.

I figured that the smaller one would be too small, and our Lowes only has this one in stock, it is a 35 bottle size so it may work out better...

Lol, it was worth a shot :)

As for the smaller wine coolers ;) , I was looking at that one through your link. It seems good and the price is right imo, but looking at the reviews there were a few to look at...

"Cons
I added a digital thermometer to my cooler and realized that the internal temperature varies by five degrees daily which is unacceptable. Also, the temperature is not adjustable to warmer than about 54 degrees."

I'm not sure if this is a problem or not.

yeah, I read those, kinda made it look bad so I started to look around some more and after an hour of different brands and sizes, I realized that they all had the same kind of reviews. there was some REALLY bad reviews on every one I looked at.
I do think I need something cause my room where I keep my gars can get up into the high 70's in the summer...I had them stored like that for years and had no problems but with stock changing out I dont want to take any chances...
oh and for the one on craiglist's, That is a 2 hour drive and with my gas loving truck, turnpike tolls and all I would be further off to buy a new one with a warranty.

You might want to check on amazon if you haven't already, I have seen some good prices on there for that magical day when I can afford one. I'll search around and if I find some you might be interested I will certainly post it here :)

most people here think 65 degrees is optimum (myself included)... just dont let it get above 70 and youll be fine though...

as far as getting the smell out of it.. there are several techniques.. the single best thing you can do it simply to open it up for a couple of days and let it air out.. if that doesnt get it neutral.. try washing it out with some warm, soapy (scent free) water.. and then put a box of baking soda in there for a couple of days... and you should be good to go...

Best thing to do first is open it up and let it air out. At least a week. Then go from there.

Nice Griz! It looks like a great unit, and has a good amount of space. Both great suggestions above for airing it out, also if you do not have baking soda around just crumple up some news paper and stick it in there. The carbon in the news paper will draw out the smell. Keep us posted with the build brother!
