I have said this before but if I were going to buy any sort of humidification media I would buy something that is designed for cigars thus I have a issue I have tech support to call. I am not saying that kitty liter is bad but it is designed for cat urine not to be stuck in a cigar cabinet. Personally I would use beads but would cost me a little over a grand to buy enough for my humidor. Just my 2 cents.
If you haven't tried KL then you're only putting out an opinion that doesn't have merit...even though KL is meant for cats. There are a ton of products out there that have other benefits other than what they are sold for....KL has been proven but because of those who still have a tendency to equate KL with cat urine then you'd actually have to conduct an experiment to see if you're right or wrong. My initial reaction was just like yours and the idea of using KL disgusted me but I kept reading about it and then did my own experiment...that was years ago and I haven't looked back. The stuff works and even if they called it by another name...or any name for that matter I'd still use it. Once proven that it works then that's all that matter. Instead of using all of those chemicals to clean things in your house...windex, cleaners, etc. I use straight Vodka and it's cheaper ( use the off brand stuff...not SKY or Grey Goose ) and it cleans better with no chemicals...when you get thirsty you can spray some into your mouth and keep on cleaning. Makes chores so much easier to do.

lilninjabuddy WOW, that was a lot of very useful information, THANK YOU. It looks Like I am leaning toward HF beads used in small containers on each shelf. I am curious about the temp controller. Is it a must and how the heck does it get connected? I am not very good with boards and such. larger electrical I am good with, but that technical stuff is a no-no for me. I was looking at this one, will it work?
http://www.amazon.com/Johnson-Controls-A19AAT-2C-Temperature-Controller/dp/B0002EAL58/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1368093564&sr=8-5&keywords=temp+controller
it looks like the fridge gets plugged into it and then to the wall and it controls the electric to the fridge? is that right?
The one I linked to is really easy to set up. All you really need is a grounded extension cord, a screwdriver, and a wire stripper/cutter. Cut, strip, screw the wires into the unit. If you want to get fancy, you can make a housing for it, I'm going to do that with an old cigar box.

Then, you plug the ETC into the wall, and the Wineador into the unit. Simple as that.

The only issue I can see with the one you linked is that there's no range, no time delay, and it's more expensive. You want a bit of range and a bit of time delay so that the unit isn't constantly turning on and off. That constant on and off will wear out the control board on the wine cooler a lot faster unnecessarily.
Loo, it sounds like it is simple, I didn't realize it has a plug/ outlet and it only gets one hook up. I may be able to do that. By the way, thanks a bunch for all your advice.

Well I use HCM beads and haven't had to do anything to them since I got them a year and a half ago. Zero maintenance for that long is more than worth it to me. But I haven't even considered cat litter so I guess my opinion is without merit as well. I also use pledge multi-surface because I prefer my house to smell like citrus as opposed to booze when clean. I heard newspaper makes a good cheap substitute for toilet paper but I personally like the fluffiness my tookus gets from Cottonelle. :)

Know what, this is the silliest debate going. If silica KL works for you then use it by all means. If beads are your thing then use them. The only purpose of either is to maintain the Rh in your humidor at a specific rate. To argue about it and offend people is just silly.

+1 on the Cottonelle. My dad remembers using the Sears catalog and his favorite time of year was at Christmas because the mandarin orange wrappers were tender on his poopetts.
As far as humidification goes, I use Heartfelt, but as long as the sticks are comfortable, who gives two shits. It's really about them...

I tried beads once and got slapped. If you can sleep at night, go out of town for a few days, or whatever without breaking into cold sweats over your collection. I call that a win.

Let me ask a question. From what little research ive done. Cigar Beads are type B silica gel beads and KL is type b silica gel beads, what is the difference between the 2 then?

Cant we just buy bulk type b silica gel beads imstead? Ok that was 2 questions.

Oh thats right. Thanx. Im reading that and thinking heartfelt beads. So the debate is between clay beads vs the kitty litter silica beads then.
