Not to thread jack, but how does the sugar help?

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2 because, you know, I love Tapatalk 2.

The #9 has kicked my ass a number of times especially when I first started smoking on a regular basis. Pace yourself with a soft drink and just take your time. The flavors pop out better the slower you smoke anyway. Enjoy man!

I'll emphatically second two things:
1. Smoke slower. Like drinking, the slower you smoke, the better off you'll be. Sip the cigar, don't puff it. Take slow draws, and let the cigar rest in between puffs for 30-60 seconds. This will not only help you feel the kick less, it'll also make the cigar taste better
2. Drink sugary soda. Root beer, cream soda, Dr. Pepper, and Coke/Mexican Coke all pair very well with cigars and are chock full of sugars, which will help counteract the nicotine.

Hey folks...

So last night, after a Liga Privada #9 robusto, ended up with the dreaded cigar sickness. This happens about 1/4 of the time, doesn't matter if it's CC or NC. Any thoughts? Has anybody had this issue, and if so, how did you deal with it?

Thanks!
Ian

Eat and drink lots of water.... or smoke milder cigars. I have a very good friend that will only smoke milder cigars and over the years he's built his tolernce up for medium strength and he's smoked for 15 years.

Bros,
just reading all the, "eat soft foods, have a cream soda, and go with gentler puffs of milder smoke taking yourself into a happy place" is making me queasy.

Dude,
First try drinking ethanol beforehand and/or while you toke.
Then you will probably smoke anything as furious as you want, and as much as you wish problem free.

Good advice here. For me, it's just be aware of which sticks have more vitamin N than others, and don't smoke on an empty stomach. And if you do, have sugar.

Make sure you smoke on a full stomach and well hydrated.

Sugar helps counteract the nicotine, so a very sweet beverage during the smoke helps. If you're still feeling the sick coming on after the smoke, start pounding sugar packets.

Don't smoke too fast.

Like drinking, know your limits. X amount of nicotine may be fine for some, and too much for others. No shame in that.
^^ I will agree with the above. I am a light weight as it is, but I have learned you just have to pace yourself and adjust your smoking routine to your body. I usually eat a descent amount when smoking a powerful stick, and will eat lighter with a milder one. I make sure I have some juice or a drink with some sugar on hand. You may not drink it but its good to have, I usually take a few sips or drink after every ash fall. But there will be times that it just hits you, and when it does, for me anyways I find moving around and doing stuff makes the effects not so noticeable. But once you sit back and relax you will fill it hit you. But there are also times I just sit back and let it come if I know its going to be a powerful smoke. The first time I smoke a cigar I had one of the worst nicotine overdoses of my life, The mixture of smoking too fast and sitting in the hot sun that day took its toll, Since then I have made sure I never go to far into a cigar if I get even remotely close to that heavy of intake.

I've tossed the cookies once or twice in my smoking career....usually this is due to several full bodied cigars + florida heat + drinking water or light beer (I'll never do that again)

I've never gotten nicsick while I was drinking Coke or some type of bubbly soda so I've been practicing the cigar + soda for several years now without a problem.

Side note, from first hand experience: whatever you do, do not drink coffee if you start to feel the nic-kick coming on... the caffeine has a compounding effect, and you might end up tossing your drawers in the trash if you aren't careful.
by your logic, sir, i should be dead. o)
There are always exceptions to the rule...

I used to experience the nauseousness all the time.. and used to freak out because I hate that feeling. Whenever I start to feel it I load up on some sugar.. always seems to do the trick... hard candy usually does the job well.. we used to keep lifesavers at the house so if we ever needed it.. i grabbed a handful... It doesn't happen to me much more .. I guess I became somewhat seasoned.. I recently smoked and nubbed the LFD oro maduro and got a HUGE kick.. gushers took care of that! lol

I tried the sugar solution once, it didn't help. I've gotten sick twice from a powerful cigar smoked too quickly, one was a Camacho Trip Maduro and I don't recall the brand of the other one. That Camacho can sneak up on you quickly if you're not prepared for it. I almost got sick at the local cigar shop last summer. I was enjoying an FdO natural toro and once in a while those have quite a nic kick. I got all clammy and sweaty, I thought I was going to fall over on the way to the bathroom but it settled down just enough that I didn't puke. I hate that!

All this time and I thought I was the only one that shat myself?!
OMG! You slay me!

I've never had to hurl, but definitely got a huge head spinning hit from one of my uncle's Henry Clays. I'll know what to do if it ever does happen. Thanks for the tip's fellas.

Ok...thank god for this thread. I am out here in Afghan and have had cigars punching me in the balls for almost a week straight. The latest one ( I got as close to yakking as one can get without actually doing so ) was an Undercrown. Panicked, started chugging water and ate some chips...close call. Never knew about the sugar thing. But being out here calls for many empty stomach times as well as dehydration. Guess I haven't become the bitch I thought I had lol.
