Had given a friend a d4 he loved it and ordered some d5 from a reputable source. He thought they were fake because they werent as good. and I assured him they weren't fake. The d4 I gave him had at least 2 years on it and I'm sure he ran thru the d5 as soon as he got them. My question is what are the differences because I also told him I don't believe they are entirely the same cigar. I've not had a d5 so I couldn't be sure enough about what he was tasting to explain it to him other than the age and they're probably not the same stick.

The PSD4 is regular production and measures 4.9 x 50. The PSD5 is an EL and measures 4.3 x 50. All EL's are supposedly made with tobacco aged at least 2 years. That is the only difference I know of. I've never had a PSD5, so I can't comment on flavor differences. You'd think the PSD5 would be a "better" version of the PSD4, but as you know, taste is a very subjective thing.

http://www.cigarinspector.com/partagas/partagas-serie-d-no-5-limited-edition-2008 - "As for the eventual comparison with the Serie D No. 4, it's not the same cigar, that's for sure. I would say that this limited edition is slightly less powerful and less balanced than its famous brother."

I prefer the PSD4 myself. Cheaper, longer, and performs better.

Not to say I'd turn down a PSD5. Both are delicious!

I bought a 10 pack a couple years back and thought they were pretty bland. So much to say the worse Party I've ever had. Which I've only said once.....

Which one are you talking about? :dunno:

I like both, but would lean towards PSd4 because of the non-EL factor.

I favor the PSD4 over the PSD5, mainly because of the availability and EL sticks are mainly reg production sticks but in a diferent vitola/size for more $. Honestly I'll stay away from EL unless im certain its a different blend.

The PSD5 is now a regular release since 2011. It no longer has the EL wrapper. I haven't smoked many of them, but I actually prefer it to the PSD4. Although, I'm not a fan of the PSD4.
