On Monday night, I purchased a LP# 9 at the Outlaw South location in Overland Park, KS (suburb of KC). When I initially lit the cigar it hardly had any draw. Not a plugged draw, but like I was sucking in and there was a bypass before the foot of the cigar. I would suck on it and hardly get any smoke in my mouth. I've seen this before where the outer wrapper is damaged or punctured and you either suffer through it or you put a finger over the damaged area. But never on a LP.
This goes on for the better part of 20 mins and I'm starting to get a bit aggravated. Externally the stick looks ok. No funny burn lines or deformities near the coals. Then the cigar starts getting real hot along the entire length of the cigar. Like nuclear real hot!
I'm more than frustrated now and I finally decide to blow through the cigar several times. After doing this I went to knock the ash off and the center the ash was like a volcanic rock. I sort of chipped this off and it took away more than an 1" of my cigar. After about 30 mins invested in getting this stick to smoke right, it starts acting the way an LP should act. I will say that I really didn't enjoy it so much after all the fuss. Wasn't worth the $16 on Monday night.
I probably should have said something to the store attendant, however I was with a group of 6 guys and I'm the most experienced cigar smoker and I didn't want it to come off as I was being a cigar snob. Instead I sat at the end of the row of easy chairs and finished the evening.
Yesterday I smoked a couple of other cigars that I picked up in the same humidor. They were all great, including a T-52.
Do you think I had a tunneling issue going on? Was it over humidified? Any ideas? Disappointing but probably my first bad experience having smoked over 50 different LP sticks.
