Dunno about other BOTLs, but I don't worry about the small things when it comes to my humi. I cram a bunch of boxes in a fridge humi along with some 65RH boveda packs. No fans, just a temp/humi gauge here & there. I'm lazy. Never gets above 74F/72RH in the summer, or below 58F in the winter. My house is heated and air conditioned. I use the freezer section for singles, and the only time I ever have issues with sticks is when I expose them directly to the boveda packs. Otherwise everything smokes flawlessly.

Please don't take any of this as bragging, I'm just trying to make the point that you don't always hafta sweat the most minute little temp or humi variance to have great sticks. This has worked for me for over a year without drama. Anyone else taking this approach?

Yup, used to worry if the temp or humidity went up/down a point or two. Then a few months later I started caring less about numbers and just paid attention to how the cigars smoked and never worried that much about the hygrometer again. As a matter of fact, the battery has been dead in mine for a few weeks, I have a new battery for it, it's just a low priority to change it.

I used to have major OCD about my levels when it came to my desktop humi, but have since calmed down with it. Just threw some Bovedas in there and everything tastes great. I have also added a coolidor to my inventory with heartfelt tubes, and the levels are very consistent, so I don't worry much anymore being here in Southern California (I know other brothers have more harsh climates) so I am grateful. My coolidor doesn't have fans stirring the air, but I do it every day or every 2 days and it's a great way to store your smokes!

I totally get what you are saying about not worrying. Early on though, I was obsessed with having almost perfect readings. Now I just say, "Fuck it dude, let's go bowling."

As long as my temp/RH is between 60-70, I'm good to go. It usually sits around 66/66-ish, but I no longer check it like I used to (couple times a day). I use KL, so I do keep somewhat of an eye on it depending on the time of the year.

I know a couple guys who use an old refrigerator as a cabinet humidor. They say it works great! I plan to keep my fridge when it dies for this purpose, unless I have a walk-in closet humidor by then (please, Lord, please!).

I worry about mine a bit more than that, but not a ton. I keep a vinotemp in the RV that has most of my sticks. Left to it's own devices, the coach would get pretty warm each time we move. I'll run the generator if the temps are going to be warm, to keep the RV A/C on while driving. I don't worry about slight changes, but without a little bit of work-mine would go through major temp swings.

What kind of issues did you have when Bovedas were touching the bare sticks?
no issues, that's what. they are designed to do! actually, my boxes and coolers are all run on heartfelt with boveda back up. i really don't use my hygrometers at this point. i know my house well enough to know the temp by feel, and know my stash well enough to be able to judge the sticks by sight. also, if the bovedas stop being plump and juice, it's time to go in and water. o)

I don't see any issue with the boveda packs actually touching the sticks mine seem fine. As for worrying about the temp I don't as my hygrometer is off 5 degrees so I don't even worry about it. Like Java I know my stash by site and feel also my thermostat is right over where my humi is so it's all good.

I have 250ct xikar & old bovedas in the igloodor for boxes. The tupperdors & diamond crown humi are all boveda. The 300ct ravello(?) has a small bowl of dust. water & bovedas. I run 69% in everything but the D.C. wich is 65%.
I don't even look at the hygro any more. They smoke great. I think everybody goes overboard when they first get serious. After a while you realize that humidification devices these days are pretty well spot on & relax a lil'bit. I still have to do a humi tour every few days cause the shit is sooooo pretty, but I don't sweat the small stuff like I used to.

The only times I have been all about checking it is when setting up the humi/coolidor. Once it seems to level out I don't worry about it as much.

I check every couple of days. I use one hygrometer for several humidors so every couple of days I move it to a different one. If it reads low, I add some water to the KL. Other than that, I don't worry about it.

What kind of issues did you have when Bovedas were touching the bare sticks?
I discovered that I was having burn issues with the sticks that I was carrying with me in my 3 finger case. I was using a small Boveda pack for humidification and was almost always having burn issues with the side of the sticks that was touching the Boveda pack. It finally dawned on me that because I normally store my sticks at 65% and was putting them in the case with a 70% pack, the side that was touching the pack was picking up the humidity faster than the rest of the stick and causing that side of the stick to burn slower. Basically I stopped placing a small pack in the 3 finger case and the (self induced) "problem" went away.
