I recently just moved into my own home and want to start keeping a lot of cheaper, but not garbage, cigars at the hosue. I'm starting to look at the sale samplers from online stores and wanted to get some opinions. Are there any that you feel should be at the top of my list or any that I should avoid?

One in particular I was looking at trying out after reading about them in the Cigar Makers of Nicaragua book is the Plasencia Sampler with the below listed cigars. I typically smoke medium - full and prefer full. My favorite cigars are typically Padrons, Torano 50 year and Salutems, H Upmann Legacy, and Undercrowns or Uzis. I realize these are different than those, but i'm trying to branch out a bit, I just don't want to stray too far.

2 Carinos Robusto Maduro (5 x 50)
2 Carinos Robusto Natural (5 x 50)
2 La Campina Robusto Natural (5 x 50)
2 La Floridita Fuerte Robusto Dark Natural (5 x 50)
2 La Floridita Gold Robusto Natural (5 x 50)
2 La Floridita Limited Robusto Maduro (5 x 50)
2 La Floridita Pancho Natural (5 1/2 x 52)
2 La Floridita Pancho Maduro (5 1/2 x 52)
2 Pai Gow Robusto Natural (5 x 50)
2 Plasencia Reserva Robusto Natural (4 3/4 x 52)

Tried it years ago as I made my way through every cheap sampler I could find. Not one in there that I ever wanted again. I recall thinking that they might be OK yard gars if they were to rest for years and settle, but definitely not worth the humi space. All fairly harsh with little redeeming flavor.

There are tons of inexpensive, decent, sticks out there.. especially if youre buying by the box..

theyre not going to replace Torano 50's, Padons, and Undercrowns in your rotation... but.. for example.. the Ramon Bueso Genesis robusto is often compared to the undercrown.. and can be had for about $60 for a box of 20 pretty regularly..

Nica Libre 1990's are often compared to padrons.. 20 robustos are about $60 a box...

I like the little asylum mini corona's.. they can be had for less than $60 a box as well more often than not..

etc..etc..

Its pretty easy to find decent (not excellent.. but certainly decent...) sticks for $3 a smoke IMHO...

Thank you for the feedback guys. I'm actually a big fan of the Asylum coronas and smoke a few of these a week usually. I've been able to order the non-50 year exodus from Torano for about $3 a stick regularly as well and they're a fair concession for the price. I'll give the Nica Libre and Genesis a shot as well. Thank you.

The Torano 50th can often be had on cbid for. $4, and another I'd recommend is the illusione "R". A great stick for $4!

Also, I've heard but not confirmed that the new 7-20-4 line is great, and those are on the monster often at $4 a stick as well. !

+1, the Illusione Rothchildes is a fantastic smoke for the money.

Will give another +1 to the Illusione R.. I'd pay double for that stick... its a great bargain IMHO...

Will also give a thumbs up to the 7-20-4... I went to one of their events about 2 months ago.. and got a chance to try both the "hustler" and the 7-20-4 robusto.. both were very good.. (although I havent seen either of them for less than about $7.00 online or about $8.00 in a B&M yet.. )....

What do you consider "cheap"?
What vitolas do you smoke?

I bought a cab of Arturo Fuente Exquisitos Maduros for ~$100. They're quite small. But for $2 a stick, they're tasty and perfect for winter smoking. But for larger vitolas, I typically seek out deals on CBid... or try above budget sticks... or try Seconds from time to time.

I vote as well for the Nica Libre. Great smoke that can be had at a killer price.

I also like the 5 vegas gold and AAA

Perdomo cigars can be had for a great price and are consistently good. Try the lot 23 maduro, ESV 2002 maduro, ESV sungrown and patriarch maduro.

Watch the monster. They've had dog walkers at $18/fiver, Lonsdales at $21/fiver and robos at $25/fiver recently

Will do that.. would love to add about 20 dog walkers to the humi as part of my winter prep plan :)
Did either of you find them harsh? I had one about a month ago and it tore my throat up so bad I haven't wanted to give it a second chance.

Also, Fuente Chateaus and Oliva V Lanceros can be had at most B&M's for about $5 ea, and a lot cheaper if you find a good deal on a box.

Thank you all for all the suggestions so far. I think I have a good start, but please keep the ideas coming in! There are so many great cigars out there to try. I'm excited to have a place to smoke them without driving an hour!

I would always suggest watching the FS section in the marketplace. Guys let go of sticks daily here for way less then retail. If I were new again if buy solely from here as some of the deals have been insane. Like 3 dollars a stick for 6-7 dollar premium cigars.....

Going to agree with jfire here. Great suggestion. I myself let go of sticks here on the cheap. All you have to do is be quick!

@acefisher1 I think the Nica Libre 1990 are at our local shop. We may have to try them. I know a friend of ours enjoys them quite a bit.
