A guy I work with goes to Alaska every summer to fish for salmon and halibut. He is a great guy, but a little technology challenged. So I do a little side work on his home computers and iPads. And he pays me in Bass Pro gift cards, halibut and salmon that he caught on his trips and venison from his son in law in Tennessee. So I woke up yesterday to this picture. Then he called me and said it is a good thing I like halibut. It weighed in at 130 lbs and measured 80 inches long.

Here is the result. He had such a productive trip, he had to clear freezer space. So in addition to the six red salmon fillets, and the approximately 20 halibut steaks and fillets he threw in two racks of venison spare ribs, two lbs of venison burger, and two venison back straps . What this all means is that I am basically a tech support indentured servant for a couple months.... And it is well worth it.

Halibut is a wonderful fish. I go to the pacific northwest often and the first thing I do is go to dinner for halibut.
I agree. It is in my top three for sure. Salmon I have to be in the mood for, but man that halibut is good all the time. Of course I am a bit spoiled here in Florida with grouper, redfish and snapper readily available.

Nice score Curtis! Just being curious, what kind of tech support do you do?

It is kind of all over the place. I work for a public school district, and I support a middle school. Which doesn't seem like much, but we have 1600 students, and 150 staff members, all with individual user accounts. Hardware wise I support approx 650 desktop and laptop PCs, 4 servers, half a dozen Macs and iMacs, 50 Ipads, a Cisco IP phone system, 75 network printers, campus wide wireless system....and all of the software associated with all of it. So yeah, a little bit of everything. Let's just say I am rarely bored at work.

The first time i had Halibut I'll never forget, was also my first sushi experience. My Uncle had been to Alaska (I believe) I was approx. 9 yrs. old and he was about to bbq some up when my Father offered me a raw chunk (which I graciously accepted) and loved. Actually, as I remember, other than the smoke flavor there wasn't a huge difference between raw and bbq'd. Both were delicious!
