Hey everyone, this is my first topic I've posted before and I think this is the right place to put it, if it's not please let me know.

I have some concerns about the 2 of the 3 humidors I have already as they are older, and seem to not maintain their humidity for that long. Also it's would be nice to just get one attractive one instead of opening all 3 when choosing a stick lol. The one good one keeps its humidity at 70 with hardly any maintenance at all but can't hold all my sticks.

I've looked online but really don't have a idea on what humidors in the 200ct range are good for the price. I see special edition ones that are asking $1k+ and then I see some off amazon that are as low as $50.

Could you guys help direct me to a certain brand or specific humidor that will last awhile and is quality built that will hold all my sticks?

Humidor that has to be kept up with consistently.

I was recently in a similar situation as you recently and I'd have to say that it really depends on what you are looking to spend. If you would seriously consider high end options in the 1 K range, than you might just want to upgrade to a cabinet. Aristocrat makes fantastic humis, I've had mine for just over a month and am very pleased with it. You could get a smaller unit starting at around $450 that can hold about 15-20 boxes. You could ditch your crap humis and put them in this one and have space for extras most likely.

The problem with another desktop is that you will most likely outgrow the storage capacity of it as well and then your back to square 1 again looking for another desktop humi. Keep in mind that you can rarely stuff in the advertised amount of cigars into desktop humi's to begin with. Judging by your other boxes, it seems like appearance is a factor for you and I personally found it hard to find something large that had a nice look to it without going into a custom made option. As far as custom options go, they were much more expensive and while they would be heirloom quality I failed to see the point of spending almost a grand on a desktop when eventually I know that my storage needs would outgrow it as well. Then what? I'd have to get another desktop and I'd have 4 humi's to maintain and run out of space that the missus would find acceptable for me to stick them.

I wish I could be more help but its rare that I'll see any desktop over a 150 ct because the size is so large that its no longer really a desktop and the convenience of storage anywhere starts to go out of the window. There are certain dimensions that just look right to the eye. Most boxes are designed in such a way to make them look visually appealing. When you get to larger capacity boxes, to keep the same dimensional appeal, the footprint can become quite large or they change the design of the box and it no longer has the same appealing look as a small unit. Sacrifices have to be made somewhere to get it to hold so much.

You might also want to check out cooladors and wineadors. Cooladors are cheap, have great seals and keep your cigars properly humidified with very low maintenance with the downside of having a low eye appeal, as you'll most likely want to hide it away somewhere. Wineadors will cost slightly more but deals can be found on used ones on craigslist and has the same advantages stated above for the coolador with advantage of looking much more eye appealing and you can put it in the open and have it look good. You can have custom shelves built for either option here: http://wineadors.com/index.html

Before you spend big money on a desktop I would seriously look into these options as they can be cheaper long term (instead of constantly buying more desktops) and will all require less maintenance as you will only have to take care of one unit instead of 3 or more. I didn't exactly answer your question I know, but I just want to make sure you're aware of all your possible options before continuing. Good luck and have fun with the search! (and buying!)

What he said^^^ lol.

I'm going to upgrade my storage in the fall, and I will be going with a wineador. For me the temp control is most important, Florida gets hot, and I'd rather not find out what a beetle infestation looks like.

For 200+ sticks I'd recommend the wineador as you are here with me in the hot & humid dirty south. An winefridge will run $100+ depending on size, etc. I personally have an Edgestar 28. If you want to spend more $ to upgrade, you can get drawers/shelves from Forrest who does great work, but you can start off much less $ using what comes with the fridge.

Wineador will hold great Rh and you have the added benefit of cooling during the summer as needed.

Coolerdor! Get whatever sized cooler (or Tupperware bin, if you want to go for less than $10) you need, toss in some rH beads and any spare cigar boxes you might have for the cedar ... and bingo! Cheap, and excellent.

I started doing this about 5 years ago ... and now with about 4,000 cigars in my collection, I STILL only use tupperware bins or coolers! I'm actually going to skip the winedor and cabinet humidor stage, and just keep using my bins until I can make a walk-in!

+1 to what everyone else has already said....

I keep a 150 count desktop.. I use it for "daily" smokes, yard gars, etc.... and as a "moochador" (when guys come over that really dont smoke.. or dont care what they smoke, etc.. I just tell them to reach inside and pull out whatever they want)...

But I think anything larger than that would really be a hassle in a desktop (my 150 count probably doesnt really hold 150.. Im guessing a real world count on it is somewhere closer to 100-120..).. its already a pain in the butt to sort through and find something in.. any larger and you would likely be digging all the time...

If youre looking for something to store your entire collection.. and are looking at 200+ capacity... considr a wineador or a coolerador (whichever suits your budget, your needs, personal tastes, etc..).. I ran a small, 12 bottle wineador for a while before upgrading to a cabinet.. I could get well over 200 sticks in there easily.. and my all in cost was less than $100 (I got the cooler on CL for $20.. then got about $60 in trays from Forrest.. and spent another $10 or so on RH media..)... it was an excellent, low cost, nice looking (could display it) option for me...

As it has already been said I agree with the above about moving into a better storage device rather then a 200ct desktop. For now until I can get the wineador budget I went with a coolerador (which was just in time since I got smacked hard as of late) at a total cost of $25. I found a 48qt cooler at Wally World for $20 and then wanted to try out the KL (kitty litter 4 lbs of mimi litter for $4.xx) media route and see how that works. I then picked up a ton of empty boxes from my B&M, got these for free since I frequent them so often, some places charge a few dollars per box. These helped season the cooler and get the humidity to where I wanted it. I will be going on amazon soon to scoop up some of those $8 spanish cedar trays and swap out some of the boxes for these for better storage. This gives me plenty of time for see what my next step is in storage and I have a ton of room!

+1 on the coolerdor. Sure keep a desktop for the display item, i've got one but the coolerdor generally keeps great rh and also buffers the temp changes. The tupperdor works too just doesn't help with the temp changes though you may not need it. :)

Personally, I'd recommend a wineador. It's going to be cheaper and work better than any other humidor in the same price range. I got mine on Craigslist for $50, and put $200 into drawers, so the total cost was only $250.

Alternatively, a coolidor for $50 is a really, really fantastic option. Use it for most of your bulk storage, and then just keep a small desktop for stuff you're planning on smoking soon.

Master Shake,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Everything you said makes complete sense to me now lol. I wasn't thinking of how a huge desktop one would take up so much space and would be in the crazy high price range.

I also hadn't ever heard of a wineador before. I just looked at the link and did some more research and they are pretty awesome for the price. Not to mention I don't even drink wine and I already have a wine cooler because an employee thought it was a really cool looking glass refrigerator lol. So I am going to spend some time this weekend working on it.

This is the one I already have.

You made my day man lol, I was dreading thinking about spending $500-600 on a humidor when I could spend that on some cigars instead! Now I can! Thanks so much.

just make sure the cooler you have is a thermoelectric model.. should be easy enough to figure out with a quick google search (I cant tell what make/model you have from the picture..

Im guessing thats 16 or 20 bottle cooler minimum from the pic (again.. hard to tell).. if so, you should have plenty of room to grow your stash for a while.. I was able to get around 300 sticks in mine pretty easy once I got it organized with some trays and did some fancy tetris work with my boxes..

Well it looks like I'm gonna need to expedite this wineador project. I just picked up two boxes on a trade for a pair of old Fulton county stadium seats. Also my local B&M owner brought back a truckload of sticks from IPCPR and gave me about 20!

I got a box of My Father Le-Bijou 1992 Churchill's and a box of Liga Undercrown Gran Toro's for a straight up swap of stadium seats!? I was blown away.

I'd imagine you'd let em go for free being a mets fan! I already went through 3 My Fathers and 2 Undercrowns. My dad smoked one with me and I gave his friend one. Then I gave my buddy 2 Undercrowns because he loves them and I didn't expect anything in return but he gave me a CAO Flathead (I think they are coming out soon)

Is that along the same lines as the LFD chisel?

KK33
If your referring to the size/shape, then not really. It's a box press with the flattest top (probably why they call it a flathead lol). I had a chance to smoke the LFD Chapter One, which is a chisel (just a special edition)

[btw I didn't punch this myself lol, my store owner did and decided he wanted to smoke something else he had and let me try this one while we were looking through the new sticks]

See, As per my point of view I do have a humidor in my office desks that has a capacity of approx 300 sticks which is of wineador. But I'd suggest you that if you are having lots of cigars then you may go for a drawers one that would be the perfect one that to with a decent look.
Just have a look on my Wineador

That looks awesome. I wasn't able to get around to making the wineador this weekend as I had to travel last minute for work, but that's most definitely the route I'm going to choose. It's the most economical and practical option imo now that I was able to research them.

I need to get on it quick though because I got another box of CAO sopranos coming in the mail (because Cigar Int had them on sale) and I don't have any more room left in my humidors :/ lol.

Thanks for the additional advice shared.
