Ok, I know there are a ton of blogs out there...Cigars are no different.

As a novice smoker, I'm still developing my own personal tastes, palates, and interests. I also love the social side of Cigars as well. There is just something about smoking Cigars with people and just conversing/watching the game/whatever is just enjoyable and relaxing. I also feel the same way with a high quality Craft Beer.

I want to blend the two together. I don't want to do just a Beer website, and I just don't want to do just a Cigar website as well. I know there are a lot of talk about Scotch/Whisky/Wine with Cigars....But not so much with Beer. I want to create a website that's more than just Beer/Cigar reviews (Together and separate) but also as an online journal of just a common man who want's to explore outside his comfort zone. Go out and try a Cigar that I might have overlooked or never had a reason to smoke.

What does BOTL think about this? Would you look at something like this? Do you know people would be interested in something like this? Let me know what you think?

Thanks!!

Go for it! I'd read it. Novice craft beer enthusiast myself and the diversity of microbrews around the country is incredible

I'm the opposite....I'm pretty familiar with the Craft Beer industry, but a total novice when it comes to Cigars. I've been smoking for about 3 years, but only about 1-2 a month. I've renewed my interested in them and want to explore more. I feel like this is the best way to do it

It all depends on how attractive the website is, and how well written the content is. It could be a beautiful website with very interesting topics, but shoddy writing, and I won't go back. Or, it could be a shoddy website and really well-written posts, and I still probably wouldn't go back.

But make a visually-appealing website with great photos and good writing, and I'm all in!

Go for it.

Absolute worst case scenario: people don't read it. Who cares? It's a fun, creative way for you to capture your experiences.

That's one of the biggest things I'm working on. I've done some stuff via wordpress and had decent results, but if I do decide to do this, I want to make sure it's done right when it comes to the visual, content and written side of things. It's not going to happen for a couple of months or so, but I just want to put some feelers out and see if it's worth making the investment

I would do it with wordpress or something free, initially. You can actually make some pretty decent pages with it, or at least you could. I haven't used it in a while.

I'd say, get it as good as you can with wordpress, and once you have an audience, then make the investment in something else.

Not a bad idea. I was thinking of doing something similar, but catering strictly to the $5-$10 stick demographic

Yeah....May just get a basic WP site started, just to get something going and build an audience...I want this to be a hobby, but at the same time, I want to show people that this is a serious project..Not just some schmuck trying to score free stuff (I know a lot of bloggers who "Blog" just because of that.) It's a perk, but not what I want to do.

I find that your best bet is just to start a blog that satisfies your interests and not worry what BOTL thinks or what readers think or whatever - if its something you are passionate about and enjoy then the readers will find you.

^^Good advice right there. Personally, I don't bother reading the blogs but I do check out some of the reviews if they pop up in a Google search when I'm interested in finding out about an unfamiliar cigar. I'll usually read up to 5 reviews and consider the general consensus. Good luck, sounds like work to me. :dunno:

They do beer pairings with cigars
Thanks for sharing our link!

Anyhow, on the blog idea. If you have an idea, GO WITH IT. That's how we got started and I still, to this day have fun doing it. If I didn't, I simply wouldn't still be writing. Start off easy, with a free blogger or wordpress account, and who knows. It may turn into something great. Worse case scenario, no one reads it. Best case scenario, you meet, talk, and connect with some great BOTL.
