Hi guys.
I'm an experienced forum administrator and was recommended to this one by a friend whose username I don't have at hand right now. I looked over the forums and threads a bit, and read some of the intro materials, and I like what I see. You've got a great philosophy here, and while I don't consider myself much of a joiner, or any kind of cigar expert, I'm happy to be here and learn a thing or two. Plus, the name is pretty sweet. Like a group of monks who sneak away to smoke in a cave after hours. Minus that whole shitty celibacy thing.
Anyway, been smoking cigars since the 90s. Have a couple of Romeo tubo Havanas that have sat in the humidor since '96, waiting for the right occasion. Hoping they're not crappy now. Mainly I like to smoke at my local lounge, which is the V Cut next to the Improv on Melrose. Great place, though I wish it were open later (10pm). Been going there about 6 months now and made some friends. Wish there were other decent places in the Hollywood area-- so if you know of one, please shout out!
I don't buy cigars outside of the lounge much, since I like the social aspect a lot. I go, buy one, and smoke it for a couple hours, and that's it for a day or two. Occasionally I'll have one outside the lounge (almost always on somebody's porch or deck). But finding places to smoke in LA is tough.
Lately they've been La Duena, Cromagnon, Flor de las Antillas, Jaime Garcia, and Romeo and Montecristo forever. I'll be heading to EU soon and plan to bring some home. After having one from the shop in Harvard Square (I forget the name), I recently bought a box of Kentucky Cheroots online. I know, I know. But the mouth wants what it wants. And sometimes it wants a $1, domestic, machine-made, hickory-smoked Clint Eastwood spaghetti western special.
I do worry about the health aspects. But it's essentially my only vice, so fk it (I don't know the rules about profanity here...).
Like I said, happy to be here
