I went to my BandM a few days ago with the intention of only buying some empty boxes for my wineador. I ended up leaving with two boxes and 6 sticks. Two of those sticks were just some no-name budget cigars for 2.99 (you never see that here in California with the taxes and such), and I figured "sure, why not I'll give them a try."

Big mistake! Tonight I took my dog to the park and took one of the sticks with me. This was the very first time I have ever deemed a cigar un-smokeable. It was disgusting, harsh, bitter, just flat out nasty! Up until now I have usually been able to smoke anything, even if I didn't really like it, I would finish it anyway.

Over the past 2 months I have taken cigars more seriously, smoking better and better sticks more frequently. It seems it has caught up to me and my palate now.

Anyways, I feel like I made a major breakthrough.

Welcome to the slope. I was just talking to a friend about the time I stopped in a shop while on vacation and had a V robusto... that was it. That was the top of the slope and I'm still sliding.

It's always awesome to watch people start to take their cigar smoking more seriously and see their palates evolve as they try new things and find out what it is they really like and don't like. Even cigars they once loved can sometimes become a cigar on their I don't want to smoke this anymore list

Don't turn your nose up at a cheap cigar, price is not a valid way to gauge quality or flavor etc... I will take an AF 858 sun grown for $6 or a $3 Padron Londres Maduro over most $10 cigars.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the unico stuff and htf fuente stuff, but ALOT of times I am left scratching my head. Take the Tatuaje Mummy for example, the stick does nothing for me, but somewhow I have a doofy coffin taking up way too much room in my cooler. I fall for the hype all the time:angerhead

I too felt this was great.

As mentioned above don't think the price point means everything as there are (to me) subpar 8+ sticks out there yet I really enjoy a blue ribbon which comes in at just under $2.

It's for this reason I stopped looking for bargain cigars, and started better stuff less frequently. I hate, HATE being out somewhere with a stick and having it be a dud.

I'd rather spend a bit more for a sure thing, or at least something that's quality. But I'm a pretty infrequent smoker, maybe twice a week, so I don't have as much pressure to lower my cost as guys smoking two or three a day.
