I was given one once and admit its the best flavored cigar I've ever smoked. Of course the price is ridiculous, but it's for people with money to throw away. Like the sultan of Brunai or something. Not for normal people like us.

I hope you do not take this the wrong way, but I never underestimate the power of suggestion.

Kind of like all these super HTF smokes with rave reviews. If the same smoke had a CAO label, I doubt they would be scoring 93's - 95's regularly.

I have smoked the HMR. My roommate is a tobaconist at a local shop and has quite a few Gurkha tattoos. Well he got to know Kaizad H. at the trade shows as well as our local B&M which Kaizad has visited. Long story short Kaizad gave him 5 HMR's and a limited edition Humidor which is beautiful. He gave me one cause well lets face it... who the hell would really pay that kind of money for it.

I put the stick up for quite a while and said I'd smoke it on a special ocasion. Well the day came when I decided to propose to my now Fiancee and smoke my HMR.

After reading all the reviews on it and having smoked the Grand reserve I didn't have much hope for it.

I smoked that thing down till I burnt my fingers and lip on it cause well it was a 800$ cigar. While I enjoyed this cigar a lot there is no way in hell it would ever be worth 800 to me. I could see this being a special ocasion cigar coming in around 50-100 but thats tops.

The thing I liked most about the cigar was that there was a nice balance between the cognac and the natural tobacco. While you smoke it you really taste the tobacco with subtle notes of the cognac in the background. I didn't have any of the issues expressed in multiple reviews about not being able to keep it lit. Too bad i'll never have another.
Sounds a bit like the other's in that line. The grand is super light with the congac, the platinum is actually pretty strong, and the royal is a bit stronger than the grand but IMO less than the platinum. I do prefer the art deco's to the platinum but either is good. I've never had the HMR but I have a buddy who has and your description is about on par with his. I almost picked one up for 140 one year but after hearing his take on it I didn't. I'm happy with my other reserves.

I do agree though, these are highly over priced but the cognac they used isn't cheap either.

I wouldn't pay $1 for any Ghurka. I don't care if it was rolled on a virgin's thigh, dipped in Louis XIII and put in a platinum tube, it's a turd no matter how you polish it!
I laughed.
I laughed too, and then farted, in return making me laugh harder and at the same time farting more etc etc and then i pooped a little. Not laughing anymore. Lol!

Ugh... This makes my brain hurt

A nice lady by the name of Kelly got suckered into representing Gurkha for the north east and stopped in today. I had to politely go through her entire catalogue with her and point out on CI how customers can buy a box for $20-$30 more than my WHOLESALE cost. Even the so called "B&M contracted" blends were up online for dirt cheap.. She looked pretty upset.
