So as a new Cigar smoker (only about 4 months under my belt smoking them properly) I took to the whole smoke as many different cigars as you can. While I have developed my palate quickly, and have found what I like and dont like in cigars thanks to this method. I now cant taste anything. Every cigar I have tastes the same. Im bummed, but I know its my own fault. I have been smoking 2 or sometimes even 3 a day every day for about a month now. The only way I can think to "Reset" my taste is to not smoke for the next month or so(unless I get picked up in the newbie cigar trade, then I know I'll cave lol).as I have tried skipping days and while my taste will come back for that first cigar it quickly becomes numb again and everything just tastes like exactly the same and has no flavor. If anyone knows a better way please lend a newbie a hand.

I've never experienced that although I often have that many in a day/month, sometimes more.

Take a rest, brush your tongue a lot, rinse with 50/50 water-hydrogen peroxide, and take a rest.

Did I mention "take a rest?" Yeah, you should do that.

Funny thing you mentioned this. I was talking with a fellow BOTL (MC808) yesterday and he suggested trying to smoke different cigars at the same time. Kind of like wine tasting -doing flights. You will be amazed at the differences you will notice when comparing cigars side by side. Try 2 at a time to start but not more than 3 (gets expensive). Especially the ones you feel that taste the "same". Also retrohale. The first thing you taste food with is your nose. It takes practice but it will introduce you to a whole new dimension of flavor. Slow down and enjoy. Hopefully this will get back on track.

I had a wet packed 03 Cojonu and needed to try the Pepin 10th to see if I wanted some. I couldn't put out the Tat and so I smoked both side by side. It was a fantastic smoking experience.

I'm going to give that rinse a try. I brush after everytime I smoke (girlfriend is a dentist so she'd kill me.if I didn't). The multiple cigars at one sounds prettt cool too! I'm gonna try that after giving it a rest for a bit. Thanks for the insight guys. Keep it comin lol. Anything to get back to enjoying cigars sooner. And SOFC don't worry brother just cause it doesn't solve the problem doesn't mean you can't post it. Its always cool to hear other's experiences.

lemons and limes can also help cleanse your pallet fwiw...but 2-3 a day on a fresh pallet might be overdoing it a bit. would try to slow down and take some days off here and there to help get your taste buds back.

Completely been there man.
My current technique is to scrub my tongue during brushing quite hard (has a slight burn)
Then if you are able to get your spuds a break for 1-2 days i've found that scrubbing first seems to help "heel" my tongue faster

you must be single.

(I just wish I had TIME to smoke that much :cbig:)
Alas at times I wish I was lol. But no I just work in sales so most of my day is spent taking people to lunches or driving all over town for meetings which provides ample time for cigars. A client actually is what got me seriously smoking cigars. The only way to close him on anything was to spend every other day showing this guy the different ways his company would benefit from our product. he smokes cigars non stop. One day I asked for one and was hooked. Before that I had a few but mostly smoked them like giant cigarettes.

This is the advice my girlfriend gave me yesterday. So it is the first thing I decided to try today. Now I'm also doing the 50/50 hydrogen peroxide rinse so hopefully all this combined with a few days off and I'll be back in the game. It sucks though because I feel like my whole routine is messed up because I'm not smoking lol.

I just took about a week off because I was sick and cigars have never tasted better then they do now (it was the first 'break' from cigars in about 5 years). I'm sure that will fade but what I learned is that its not so bad taking a break every so often. (A month seems a little excessive :) )

yep sounds like you burned your palette out is all. for me personally I love to drink ice water with mint leaves and a lemon slice in it. very good detox for the mouth and I find on the more intense smokes it helps with identifying what exactly all I am tasting.

I posted up the same problem two weeks back. Took a week long break and then gradually worked my way back. I also realized that I had become so immersed into the social aspects of smoking at the B&M that I was just mindlessly puffing away and not trying to taste the various cigars. Good luck with you recovery. :)
